February 6 through 10 is National School Counseling Week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association. The theme this year is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.” The purpose is to highlight the unique contribution of school counselors within our school buildings, and the tremendous impact counselors have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Please join us in celebrating the nearly 90 HSD school counselors, school-to-career specialists, support and wellness counselors, care coordinators, Youth Contact counselors, and their district supporters during National School Counseling Week!
February is also National Career and Technical Education or CTE Month, sponsored by the Association for Career and Technical Education. It is a public awareness campaign that takes place each February to celebrate the value of CTE and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs and educators across the country. We have much to celebrate in our Hillsboro community, as we continue to expand and grow our CTE opportunities for our students. The vision and passion of our CTE staff is the reason why the Hillsboro School District is recognized across our state for excellence in the area of Career and College Pathways!
Our featured event is Family Library Night at Rosedale Elementary School. Thanks to a generous grant from the Hillsboro Schools Foundation and Richard B. Siegel Foundation, Rosedale Elementary School’s library has been offering monthly “Your Story Matters” events for each grade level. Families are invited to attend with their child, browse the school’s collection of books, and enjoy the space together. Snacks, gifts, prizes, and the book that is read aloud are given away to participating families. Fifty-one families attended the 2nd grade event in January, and they’re hoping for an equally great turnout for the 3rd grade event on Wednesday, February 15th.
