Description

LSU football started the 2023 season off with a loss to Florida State for the second year in a row after a second half collapse led to a 45-24 beat down by the Seminoles. Florida State starting quarterback Jordan Travis led the team to 31 unanswered points and the Noles receivers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson flashed in an effective passing game that propelled them to an unstoppable second half. Jayden Daniels did not have the kind of performance that we saw from Travis, but he still is not culpable for the loss.
Daniels accounted for 411 of LSU's 460 total yards on Sunday in Orlando: 347 through the air and 64 on the ground, making him the Tigers' leading rusher. Daniels put himself in the line of fire to help the team. Daniels gave LSU a better chance to win Sunday night than any other LSU Tiger that night, coaches included. But just because Daniels is not culpable for the loss, his performance is also not exempt from criticism. LSU's QB1 kicked off his fifth season of college football and second at LSU in this offensive system with much to be desired. Daniels' passing game did not provide the explosiveness that was expected of a veteran QB in his second year in the system, or the explosiveness that LSU will need to be competitive in the SEC. So what comes next for Daniels and how can the passing game unlock another level before SEC play against Mississippi State starts in Week 3?
