Description

While it may seem challenging for two family units to blend into one, there are great benefits to a blended family as well: Children have the benefit of two caring parents to act as role models, financial and emotional support is available for all family members, and new siblings may connect well with each other, forming greater bonds with new brothers or sisters.

However, both parents should be responsible to possess certain qualities and enact their roles in order for the benefits to take effect. To learn more, hit the play button and listen as Doctor TK shares how to deal with difficult conversations and help your partner navigate through the chaos based on the certification program she signed up for during her pregnancy bed rest in addition to the personal experience that she had.

Let’s keep the conversation going! If you want to learn more about blended families or anything that relates to co-parenting, drop your questions in the comments below and share this with anyone you know that’ll benefit from this topic.

Standout Quotes from Doctor TK:
“Parents tend to point the blame onto the other parent and it irks my nerves. The mother is not to blame in our situation. The father is not to blame. The school is not to blame. And I'm not to blame. Who's to blame? All of us. The entire frickin' system. It truly takes a village to raise a child and I do believe that all of us have a role and all of us could have tried a little harder.” (10:39)

“As a bonus parent, I'm telling you to make sure that you check your feelings. Nothing is about you when it comes down to the child's well-being. Everything is about the child. And believe me, the truth will always be seen whether it be with the other adults that are around or better yet... the child as they become older— they recognize and see everything!” (11:40)
