REVIEW OF THE WEEK:
Fan for a few years -
Texas Fan and Grandmother
Trish, thank you for speaking the truth to counteract so many of the subtle lies I believe every day about myself and my self-worth.
WHY DO WE DOWNPLAY
Feel bad for making other people not be so good
Uncomfortable with attention on us
Someone said something to you once (like Brent .. Who are you to…)
Self-protection from expectations or public failure
False humility - we don't want to make others "feel bad"
Is it wrong to be successful?
WHAT DOWNPLAYING AND PLAYING SMALL DOES
It leaves us with a smaller life.
It creates a smaller world.
It limits us.
It prevents us from living a big life.
A big life requires big thinking - and big self-concept - and big reasonability.
HOW TO BREAK THE PATTERN
Practice acceptance
Present yourself with openness
Celebrate the potential in others
Determine that your greatness is an example, not a discouragement
Accept some of the awkwardness
ARE YOU DOWNPLAYING YOURSELF?
Brush off compliments
Justify your success
Think you're just lucky
Tell yourself it's because other people helped you
Compare yourself to others as proof of diminishment
Maximizing what doesn't go well, minimizing what does
A self-critical voice is your dominant voice
THOUGHTS TO DETER DOWNPLAYING
Me dismissing my greatness is an insult to the God who put my talent inside of me.
I am thankful for the effort I put in.
I am an example of what is possible for others.
I am committed to a life of growth.
I will not insult who God made me be.
I am responsible for maximizing everything I have been given.
I pursue excellence, not perfection.
The world needs people to shine brightly.
I have permission to live a big life.

First of all, I want to say that you are doing amazing things. You are an incredible individual and have been making such a difference in my life already. I have been listening to your podcast for two weeks now and I have started to go on the path of making positive thoughts and choices. I am exercising and displaying outward gratitude and I already see a difference. I would like to continue on this path and gain more knowledge from you on how to better myself.
