    About the Author

This devotional is dedicated to my friends.

God has given me an overabundance of really good friends, sometimes to the point of overflowing! This may be His gift to me for some of the family I have lost. I am so incredibly thankful to all the individuals who would be beside me at a moment's notice, if necessary, and for the ones who can pick back up right where we left off months or even years ago. Some of those friends are directly and indirectly discussed or responsible for parts of this devotional.

It is incredibly difficult to work through the before, during, and after of a divorce. We all have different definitions of what it means to be a loving and respectful wife. Therefore, we must give ourselves to the one standard that holds absolute authority on these matters: our heavenly Father.

Someone once told me that living life without God would be like playing a game of Monopoly without anyone knowing or adhering to the directions; we'd all be winging it according to our own understanding. So in all things marriage related, why not consult the Creator of marriage?

This devotional, of course, is not the foremost authority on divorce recovery written here on earth, but it is honest according to my experience. I'm hoping it may be a help to others. At the time of my divorce, there weren't very many resources available for Christian women going through a divorce. Thankfully, help has increased in the last decade.

All biblical references are from the NIV translation.

Christians, especially, should feel despair over divorce because it is breaking a covenant that, at its inception, was meant to be forever. When that promise falls apart, many say with a heavy heart, What now?

What helped me most was to dwell on the fact that God is in control. God is all-knowing and all-powerful. He sees the past, present, and future. God is not controlling; He doesn't make us perform as He wants. If we don't
