About this ebook
Life can be hard sometimes. It gets harder when you are faced with the stormy seas that come with a dementia diagnosis.
Caring for someone with dementia can leave you scared, defeated, frustrated, broken-hearted, angry, and confused all at once.
Through All of It is Peggy's personal story of her ten-plus-year dementia journey with her parents. She openly shares what she endured, highlights the mistakes she made, and recaps the many things she has learned along the way.
We all need encouragement throughout this lifetime, and often it is most impactful when it comes from someone who has been in your shoes. You will be comforted, encouraged, and inspired by Peggy's story. You'll be prompted to recall that you are not (and never will be) alone as she reminds us that God is always right beside us through all of it!

Through All of It was written for you… and for every family dealing with a dementia diagnosis.
It has been inspired by my loving parents, Clara and Jim Cullinan, who took me on my first life-changing dementia journey, and all the amazing seniors and their families that have crossed my path ever since.
Acknowledgments
I would never have had the courage to set out on the adventure of writing this book if it wasn't for the unending encouragement from my husband and children. Thank you, Bill, Kaitlyn, and Connor, for believing that the energy and effort tied to writing this book will make a difference to others. You are my rocks and my best friends.
I am also grateful for my personal experiences with dementia. Although many were painful and unpleasant, they have been the source of my commitment to assist others as they face this challenge. Without their impact on my life, I would have nothing credible to draw from to provide encouragement.
Our heavenly Father tells us that everything we experience in this lifetime has a purpose that only He knows and understands. Each of these experiences is designed to teach us something and ultimately strengthen our faith in Him. We are also directed to share our experiences with other believers in an effort to encourage and/or comfort them in the midst of their struggles. This story is shared with you to strengthen you in what can be some of your darkest moments with a loved one. I tell it so you will know that you are never alone in this journey and to encourage you to lean on others as well as your faith. It is too difficult to do alone.
This journey with dementia (my story in the pages that follow) changed the trajectory of my life. I left a multiyear career in the corporate world to pursue a second career in senior care. I am currently 100 percent focused on serving seniors, their families, and their care providers by delivering quality dementia education and training.
I am a nationally certified dementia trainer (NCCDP), a licensed executive director for both assisted living and memory care facilities, and I have my own dementia training company called Dealing with Dementia. (dealingwdementia.com). It is my prayer that those dealing with dementia, in any way, shape, or form, can easily access the support, training, and education that they need to cope with this devasting diagnosis.
Introduction
I am just like you. I'm a daughter, wife, cousin, mom, and hardworking professional. I am an only child that was faced with a double whammy of dementia when both of my parents began to exhibit signs of early onset dementia when I was in my forties (probably sooner if I was paying closer attention).
I was in the midst of my first career at the time that my parents' health began to decline, and I was also busy raising a family of my own. I was no longer living in my hometown, so I was trying to manage their decline from several states away. I watched as things got progressively worse at home. The flights back home got more frequent and lasted longer each time. I tried everything I could think of to get them the help I knew they needed, but the best I could accomplish was a friendly neighbor that was willing to keep an eye on them in my absence. They adamantly declined any and all other alternatives (sound familiar?).
My story is the foundation of what has now become my passion in the second half of my professional life. This series of events and experiences opened my eyes to a need that has been greatly underserved. Families need to be informed, supported, and guided through the challenges of caring for their senior loved one. Sharing my story with you is the first step of many I plan to take to do what I can to assist.
I believe that it is what we learn along the way that really matters in life. How we learn to cope with the numerous situations that will certainly present themselves, dictate our path, and serve to form our character.
It is amazing to realize how God works in each of our lives every day. Every situation I have found myself in and every person that crosses my path has been placed there deliberately
and for a specific purpose. It has become clear that either I have something to learn from them or I have something to share with them. If you can view whatever life throws at you through this lens, I am certain you will prevail.
It is my prayer that our crossing paths today, you're picking up my story to read, will be one of those deliberate events that will inform, encourage, and benefit you.
Any illness diagnosis stops us in our tracks, but this brain failure
is especially crippling because there is currently no cure or even a hopeful prognosis. When faced with any hardship, we have a choice to make. Will I allow myself to
