    Zzzz Stories - Will Bridgman

    1. Two Spiders

A house spider walked on the wall. He was looking for a place to make a web. Now and then, he stopped and observed. Then he moved on. He saw a corner that seemed interesting to him. He came to the corner and watched. He waited to start making the web. He first saw if any bugs passed that way. He did not create a web where there were no bugs. He was a meticulous spider. That meant that he did everything slowly, carefully, and precisely. He had a lot of patience. He was always ready to put much effort into his work.

A delicious bug just passed by. The meticulous spider waited a little longer. At least one more bug needed to pass before the web site was perfect. On the other side of the room was another spider. He had almost finished his web. He got there, and without much thought, he made the web. He didn't wait for a bug to fly by or choose much. He was a hasty spider. He did everything quickly, without much thought. He put little effort into what he did. He made decisions fast. Even if he made a mistake, he didn't worry too much. He could always create a web from scratch. His web was not perfect. He didn't pay much attention to ensuring every thread was in its place.

A hasty spider, on the other hand, rested on its web. He observed a meticulous spider weaving a web. His vacation did not last long. A bug was in his web. He slowly approached her and got ready for lunch. The meticulous spider didn't care. He worked his web. At that point, that was all there was to him. The web was progressing well, but much work remained to be done.

The hasty spider had already eaten half of its bug. He was already full. He thought of saving the rest for later. But he had a better idea. He wrapped the bug with two threads, put it on his back like a bag, and walked upside down across the ceiling. He liked to be upside down. Then, the whole world was different.

Walking on the ceiling, he came to a meticulous spider. Neighbor, I see your web is progressing well! he said. Yes, it's progressing well! replied the meticulous spider. He was not one for some conversations. He was doing the web now.

I saw you don't have time to hunt, so I brought you lunch! said the hasty spider. The meticulous spider paused, almost tied the wrong knot in the web. He was amazed. He didn't know what to say. Thank you very much! he answered, measuring half the bug. It looks delicious! said the meticulous spider, took the bug and started eating.

I see you still have a lot of work to do. Do you need help? asked the hasty spider. No, I don't need! It will be ready soon., answered the meticulous spider. He was looking at his web, which was hastily assembled. He got goosebumps. His web will be perfect. No one could touch his web.

Okay then, I'm going! said the hasty spider, walking off on the ceiling, of course, upside down. Then, the hasty spider dropped a thread, stuck it to the ceiling, and descended. He went to see what was down there.

The meticulous spider chewed slowly and enjoyed the bites. He looked at his web and counted how many more threads he needed to wrap to complete it. Another day, the meticulous spider was still working the web. It should be ready by the end of the day. The hasty spider spent the night down in the castle. A child played on the floor and made a magnificent castle. When the child went to sleep, the hasty spider played the role of king and walked around the castle. He slept in a comfortable king bed. He felt hungry and headed for his web. A bug has already been caught there.

Oh, nice! he said when he saw that the bug had caught itself. He looked across the room at his neighbor, the meticulous spider. Well, that spider never has fun! He's constantly working his web., he thought. He untangled the bug from his web, which was almost entirely torn. The bug fought there for a long time. He put the whole bug on his back and walked towards his neighbor. He must be starving from so much work., he thought and walked towards the neighbor.

Good morning! Dear neighbor! he exclaimed from a distance. The meticulous spider was setting one crucial thread he would be on while waiting for something to be caught. He didn't even turn around. He just answered: Good morning! From above, he saw that the hasty spider spent the night in the castle. How was it in the castle? he asked. Royal! the hasty spider answered him. But, I brought us breakfast! I see that you are very busy. You must not have had time to eat., said the hasty spider.

The meticulous spider paused and turned. He was starving. He needed breakfast. Big bug! I can already see that it's delicious! said the meticulous spider, approaching. Let's go eat it! said the hasty spider. Then he turned off one drumstick and handed it to his neighbor. They were eating a bug and admiring the web that the meticulous spider had almost finished. The web worked well! muttered the hasty spider with his mouth full. The meticulous chewed, swallowed, and said, Yes, I am satisfied!. That's the most important thing! added the hasty spider, finishing his breakfast.

I won't bother you anymore, said the hasty spider and went to look for some entertainment. The meticulous spider finished his tasty breakfast. Now, he had the strength to complete his web. He continued his work and was finished around noon. He checked everything once more. He stood on the edge of the web and watched it proudly. It turned out perfectly! Now I can rest and wait for a bug to be caught, he said.

It's been a while. When a big bug flew into the room, she buzzed and flew around. She flew past the web of a hasty spider and caught her foot. His web was torn from before. He didn't have time to fix it. The bug flapped its wings a lot. The web stretched and eventually broke. Only a few threads were left hanging. When the bug tore itself from the hasty spider's web, one thread wrapped around her left wing. She flew strangely around the room. Now and then, she crashed into something. Flying in all directions, she eventually fell into and became entangled in the web of a meticulous spider. The web was tight and taut. It could withstand such a bug without any problems. The meticulous spider quickly overpowered her, and lunch was ready.

At that moment, a hasty spider came from another room. He was hoping for a tasty lunch on his web. When he saw his web, he was surprised. What happened here? he asked himself. He looked at the few threads hanging after the bug had torn all the others. Ah, the web should be made properly. Then it wouldn't have torn herself! thought the meticulous spider. He was about to start eating the bug. Then he paused. He remembered how his neighbor shared his bug with him every day while he was building the web. Now, his neighbor needed lunch. He couldn't let him go hungry. Then he shouted across the room: Neighbor! Looks like the bug has decided that we have lunch at my place today!

Come, everything is ready! he added. The hasty spider was surprised. Nice! Here I am, arriving! he answered and went to lunch.

After lunch, the hasty spider mended his web a bit, just enough to catch the following bug. All afternoon, he convinced the meticulous spider that bugs could be hunted alone. He wanted him to go around with him and have fun. In the end, he persuaded him. He hastily swung out of two threads and a piece of paper. Then they rocked on her.

The meticulous spider was delighted. He had never had fun like that before. They heard people talking about spiders and how good they were because they caught bugs and mosquitoes. That was why they didn't touch them. That put a bug in their ear. There was no bug in the ear, but that's what they say when someone gives you an idea. They weren't catching mosquitoes. They buzzed a lot when caught and were skinny. Anyway, they made a couple of dense mosquito webs. They want to help people and thank them for letting them live in their house.

The meticulous and the hasty became friends. Slowly, the meticulous spider learned to have fun and enjoyed it. The hasty spider had company, which was even more fun for him. They did many stupid things, had a good time, and enjoyed themselves.

A big spider entered the room the following day while they were having breakfast. He was twice the size of both of them. This is not good! said the hasty spider. The meticulous spider just watched and stopped chewing. A large spider just walked into their room. He didn't even notice them. He immediately started weaving a web. He was big and agile. He didn't take long to shield the entire web from the hasty spider with his web.

We have to think of something quickly; this one will catch all our bugs! said the hasty spider. He must not stay here! replied the meticulous spider. They set out to figure out how to drive away the big spider.

They crept up to a big spider's web when night fell and untied several threads. They chose the most important ones, which keep the web tight. In the morning, a bug flew into the big spider's web. The big spider started towards her, and the whole web got tangled. He ended up on the web with the bug. It took him a long time to untangle himself. The hasty and meticulous spider didn't stop laughing. They hid in that castle from the child and watched.

The big spider repaired the web very quickly. There was nothing in their webs. They went to the kitchen. They hastily made a web there. The meticulous spider was not happy with how it turned out. But the hasty spider assured him that it was only temporary. They have to catch some lunch. The meticulous spider eventually agreed.

They waited while the big spider chewed on the bug it had caught. They remembered how the two of them always shared lunch. No one was ever hungry. This big one was brought up differently. Suddenly, something buzzed in their web. It was a tasty bug, just the kind they like. Now, it was their turn for lunch.

They didn't stop thinking about the big spider. He just ruined everything for them. They just started having fun and enjoying themselves. They still needed to finish their lunch. When another bug was caught on their web, they stopped chewing, turning, and looking.

We won't be able to eat this one! muttered the hasty spider. We don't want to eat this one! said the meticulous spider. It was some big and ugly bug. I remember that once I ate something like that, I was sick to my stomach for three days., said the meticulous spider.

I have an idea! said the hasty spider. We're going to slip that bug into the big spider's web! said the hasty spider and started laughing. The meticulous nodded his head with satisfaction and laughed.

The bug was big. They couldn't carry it to the big spider's web. They have to drag it up somehow. They thought for a long time, then came up with a plan. They were going to make a slingshot and shoot the bug into the big spider's web.

They started making stretchy threads that would be used for their slingshot. Next to the kitchen was a chair with two posts on the back. This served as a slingshot for them. They tied one end of the thread to one post and the other to another post. They put the bug in the middle of the thread. They just needed to tighten the thread and shoot the bug.

A bowl of salad with a lot of vinegar was on the table. It stinks here! said the meticulous spider. Yes, it's vinegar! said the hasty spider. Once, I slipped while walking on the edge of the bowl and fell into the vinegar! It was a terrible experience., explained the hasty spider.

The meticulous paused and said: Could we dip the bug in vinegar so the big bug would be tastier? Excellent idea! said the hasty spider. They tied the bug with a strong thread made by a meticulous spider. They slowly lowered it into a bowl with salad and soaked it well in vinegar. Then they pulled out the bug. The bug was ready for the big spider.

They put the bug on the slingshot thread and started pulling. The thread stretched, and they pulled as hard as they could. They aimed at a big spider's web when they pushed the thread. They released the bug. The thread pulled the bug and fired it. A bug flew through the air towards the web from the big one and hit the middle.

The web shook so much that the big spider almost fell. He had just dozed off. The hasty and meticulous spider watched. A big spider approached the bug, untangled it, and dragged it to the edge of the web. He started to eat it. He was a big spider, and the bug disappeared in an instant. The hasty and meticulous spider didn't even blink. They were watching what would happen.

Then, the big spider began to twist. He was not well. He clutched his stomach with all his legs, how much it hurt. Then he fell from his web to the floor. Just at that moment, the man who lived there arrived. He saw a big spider on the floor and exclaimed: Oh, what a spider!. Then he went to the kitchen and returned with a broom and a dustpan. He pushed the big spider onto the dustpan, took it to the balcony, and threw it down.

The hasty and meticulous spider couldn't believe it. They had gotten rid of the big spider. They quickly removed his web. The big spider never came back. They mended their webs and continued to have fun.

    2. A Dragon that Ran Out of Fire

Far away, in the middle of the ocean, there was an island. Many animals and one dragon lived on it. Animals mainly feed on grass and fruits from plants.

The dragon had come there a long time ago during a great storm. He had flown through the sky and had been swept across the ocean by a storm. With nowhere to land after the storm subsided, he spread his wings and let the wind carry him.

After a few days, he saw a small island. He flapped his wings vigorously and headed towards the island. He was happy to find land where he could rest. He spent some time on the island and then decided to leave. After several attempts, he gave up and returned to the island. He realized that there were no other islands or continents nearby. He got to know the island and its inhabitants and decided to stay.

Initially, everyone feared him, but they accepted him when they realized he was not a threat. It was nice to live on the island. The island experienced plenty of sunny days alternating with occasional rain. Plants and grass grew, and the animals happily ate them. A unique plant also grew there, bearing extremely hot fruits. Those fruits were the dragon's favorite to eat. Fire would come out of his mouth every time he ate those fruits. All the animals were afraid of his fire. He was careful and never burned them. The animals were grateful to him for that.

In addition to the plants and grass that the animals eat, there were also bushes with
