    Introduction

What exactly is manhood? Is it guys dressed in hoodies? Or troubled teenagers who are members of a gang and are labeled as hoodlums by society? Certainly not! And before this word could potentially get eradicated from the dictionaries, as of today, the word manhood, is defined as: qualities associated with men,¹ the state or time of being a man, male maturity, maleness, as distinguished from femaleness, male genitalia,² manly qualities, men collectively, male penis.³

Just reading the above definitions and synonyms will send chills down the spines of feminists, liberals, politically correct, and culturally woke people. And this is not a laughing matter, as I have been closely following current cultural trends, new laws and legislation, and all of the nonsense that is spewing through social media and new outlets.

As a guy, I believe I've figured out that I'm a male without having to go back to my birth certificate or even harassing my mother to find out whether I was born a boy or a girl. And, as much as this may appear to be common sense, males (boys, teenagers, and men) are currently struggling with their manhood. Some struggle with their gender identity, others with their true purpose, and still others feel weak and hopeless.

So, why did I choose the subtitle Rediscovering Biblical Manhood for my book? God has already established manhood since the creation of the world, but the meaning, purpose, and function of manhood has been diminishing over time. So, first, let's define the prefix re. The prefix re means back and again.  To rediscover biblical manhood, then, is to restore, reposition, and bring back to its original realignment. When something breaks, you usually restore, repair, or replace it. And it is for this reason that the subtitle of this book is so important, as we have been witnessing a significant level of destruction and brokenness in manhood.

Why, once again, is manhood so important in the life of a male Christian? First and foremost, our heavenly Father created us men (males) in many ways that distinguish us from females, not just biologically. And He did not make a mistake in His divine wisdom, which is why we as men must discover, function, understand, and live out our biblical manhood, which is part of our kingdom assignment on earth.

It is our manhood that outlines specific characteristics traits of our heavenly Father, and it is also our manhood that sets us on a specific path where we can fulfill our purpose, but it will be very difficult, if not impossible, for us as men to walk and fulfill our original purpose if we are confused or do not fully understand our manhood. And, having a strong passion in discipling, coaching, and mentoring young men, I wanted to provide this valuable book as a resource tool, not a magic wand, to challenge and encourage you as a parent, pastor, church leader, coach, or mentor not to give up but to fight the good fight as we together, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the living Word of God, will make an impact on the lives of our sons, teenagers, and young men who possess great kingdom potential.

And the contents of this book are real, raw, and straightforward, which will give you a nice kick in your spiritual butt cheeks from time to time. So buckle up, my friend, because I'm about to take you on a roller-coaster ride full of manhood and testosterone.

    Chapter 1

    WHAT IS MAMHOOD?

    T

o answer the question of manhood, we must return to the original source, which is the living Word of God. Let us look more closely at some profound scriptures that portray characteristics traits of manhood:

    To be courageous and strong.¹

To be on guard and stand firm in the faith.²

To have self-control towards lustful and sexual desires.³

    To be a provider.⁴

    To be a protector.⁵

    To do good.⁶

    To be respectful.⁷

To be grow up and to be mature.⁸

    To be sacrificial.⁹

    To make wise choices.¹⁰

As you fasten your seatbelt for this manhood adventure, this chapter will provide you with an understanding of what God has created since the beginning. Furthermore, you will gain clarity on what manhood is and why manhood distinguishes us from womanhood in many ways.

    In The Beginning God Created…

When we read about the historical significance of the creation of the first human being, we may naively overlook a powerful truth: God first created Adam, who was a male, and then He drew out of him Eve, who was a female, and He called her woman, which means Eve was woven out of a man. The key point here is that God created a male first, then a female. For some, God's actions may appear sexist, biased, or politically incorrect, but the good Lord knew exactly what He was doing.

God did not place males in higher superiority over their female counterparts, and the Word of God has plenty of references to support this truth. Furthermore, males were assigned specific functions and assignments that differ from females, and these differences do not divide us in opposite directions, but rather unite us to accomplish the greater mission that God had entrusted to all of us.

Additionally, God gave mankind a specific mission to be fruitful, to multiply, to have dominion, to govern, and to subdue the earth.¹¹ And both males and females have specific and distinct roles to contribute to this process. For example, the male carries the seed (sperm), whereas the female can conceive this seed and bring new life into the world. And, yes, only females are capable of reproducing and bearing children. Furthermore, God spoke directly to the first man, Adam, and gave him specific instructions, and as we carefully read the entire Bible, we will notice the kingdom assignments, roles, and functions that both males and females fulfilled.

There are Bible verses that have been quoted so many times and in so many different ways that we have memorized them. And one of these famous passages is: Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness.¹² This profound scripture will knock the wind out of any atheist's sails, because mankind was created in the image and likeness of God the Creator, not in the image of a monkey or any other animal.

The key point here is that no other creature that God has created will ever be able to match, overpower, or surpass the nature and power of a human being. And when God created man, He gave him the highest level of knowledge, intellect, reasoning, creativity, skills, and development potential of any creature God has ever created. With that said, mankind, and in this case manhood, has been redefined and rebranded as something of lesser value and worth over the decades.

As a result, Adam, the first male role model, exemplified specific characteristic traits and attributes of God, which can also be summed up as manhood, whereas Eve possessed specific traits that also portrayed specific attributes of God the Father, which can also be summed up as womanhood." And together they became a power-couple, while at the same time Adam had a specific kingdom assignment given to him by God.

What our heavenly Father has created will never be nullified or voided out by any culture, law, or influential individual.

    What Is Manhood?

In the most basic sense, manhood is what distinguishes males from females, men from women, and boys from girls. And what characteristics, ingredients, and elements comprise and define manhood: boldness, bravery, firmness, honor, masculinity, manliness, ruggedness, strong features, and toughness.¹³ This
