Author

J.N. Cisse

Being the second and last child of his parent, J.N. Cisse had a firsthand experience of the stringent challenges associated with child upbringing in a single-parent home. He recalls his own experiences and cannot but lift his heart in thanksgiving to God Almighty, whose hand of providence was not absent in his growing up, despite the rocky journey, and has brought him to a place of stability, love, and strength. Being a father of two, he has come to see the inherent beauty and profound wisdom the Creator had by building the basic unit of society, the family, on two pillars … and the enormous role placed on the shoulders of the head of every household. He therefore deeply appreciates this wisdom in achieving a worthy life, bringing up children, and positively impacting to society. Currently living and working in Nigeria’s Delta, the Lord in His mercy opened his eyes to see the root cause of the region’s problems and how to sidestep the snare. Being led to put pen to paper, he shares his knowledge in the book in the hope that you all may join the glorious path and see His blessings upon your families, homes, society, nation, and the world at large.

    INTRODUCTION

A casual glance at modern society shows the dearth of one of the most fundamental pillars of human existence—the family. Indeed, several woes rife on the planet today can be traced to a breakdown of this unit.

The layman’s understanding of family is father, mother, and children. Webster’s defines family as a social group consisting of parents and offspring. We generally believe this to hold true for family structure in the West. Here in Africa, family is a collection of several individuals linked one way or the other: blood brothers, cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, persons from the same hamlet or village, etc. The common denominator is that they share a residence-house or a compound with several houses enclosed and having a father. Such a family spread is referred to as a household. Across the globe, whether in the Americas, Asia, the Middle East, or Africa, the same positions of father, mother, and children (direct or indirect) are firmly underlined.

Family lies in the very heart of the Creator. It makes up the central core of His desire and work in saving men and redeeming them … that we might receive the adoption of sons (Gal. 4:5 KJV). Second Corinthians 6:18 says, … a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. Here, and in countless other scripture, God is depicted as Father—both explicit and implied—and we as His children. Where then is the mother?

God’s proclamation after the creation of the woman, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother,
