    INTRODUCTION

Our life is like an open book, full of tales, full of adventures, full of trouble, full of tears, full of memories, and full of uncertainties.

Similarly, children are full of life, full of excitement, full of curiosity, full of attitude, full of tantrums, full of self, and full of confusion. And as God’s children we exemplify similar characteristic traits. And sometimes our behavior and attitude, which often is expressed through lack of faith or not knowing his Word make our heavenly Father just shake His head in dismay.

Additionally, we as God's children behave, live, and complain as though our life on earth is like hell and high waters that are consuming our heart, our soul, and even our faith. Why is this the case? From a logical perspective, we could argue that being a follower of Jesus is challenging, as the enemy of our soul is on a continual mission to deceive us or to make us commit acts of sin. Furthermore, as believers, we can express our frustration that trying to live a holy or righteous lifestyle is hard, or that the Bible has way too many rules and commandments. And one of the most common reasons for our Christian misery is when we take Hebrews 12:6 out of its context: For the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.

Yes, out of the abundance of His compassion, mercy, and grace for His children, our heavenly Father will do whatever it takes to hold us on the road of righteousness and in line with His holy Word. And that's why discipline or correction is so important, not because He's angry with us, but because He loves us. And because of our selfish and carnal heart attitude, we come to the pathetic conclusion that God is not a good God, or that it is very tough to please Him, or that no matter how hard we try, we will still miss the mark. But this is far from the truth.

It would be misleading and dangerous for anyone to say or preach that our walk with the Lord is comfortable, peaceful, and trial-free. Yes, with God all things are possible. With God we are victorious. And yes, with God we are more than conquerors. But if we carefully study the Word of God, it does contain numerous passages that our faith will be tested. Or as Jesus clearly stated, "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.¹ And the words of Jesus should be of much encouragement to all of us because He laid out through
