I think your brothers are planning to return here and find you, Ax said as he stepped around the corner.  

Dain paused in his work in the garden and frowned at his friend.  My brothers?

Yes, you recall them? Ax leaned against the water barrel Dain had set at the corner of the house and watched the chickens scratch and cluck in the freshly overturned earth.  Selfish, lazy fellows who had you doing the bulk of the housework alone?  Wouldn't let you out of the house?  Started to treat you more as a servant than a family member?  Those brothers.

It was a beautiful day for the early autumn.  Still hot, but not unbearably so, and there was a breeze that cooled him in his work.  Ax had teased him about preparing the small plot the usual way rather than using magic, but Dain enjoyed the labor.  It helped him feel strong in his body
