MARKET DAY

Dain frowned over the text in front of him, then turned his frown to the unlit candle past that. The leaves on the vines by the window whispered wordless encouragement. Ax was... somewhere out of the house, doing something.  He had left as soon as he had Dain settled with the text after breakfast. Dain never knew exactly what he did when he headed out, but often he would bring small game home to eat, and he swore he made no trouble for anyone.

A part of Dain wanted to worry about Ax, out there in the supposedly haunted woods alone, but then, he had never heard of monsters in these woods. Well, no stories from anyone who had actually seen one, just those
