About this ebook
Amos Well drew his huge Bowie knife. The knife's edge glistened against the rays of the sun. He then cut a fine incision through one of Haynes' arms. Haynes screamed as the blade cut through his flesh. Blood spurted out of the wound. Well's knife was drenched in blood now, but he would not cut anymore.
"There! That blood should attract some vultures or other vermin. Should add to your agony as well." he said.
"You're one sick bastard!" Haynes said.
"I'll take that as a compliment!" Kid Cruel said.

PROLOGUE 1
Screams in the Desert
Phil Haynes woke up when they splashed cold water on his face. The cold water struck his face like thousands of tiny daggers. Against the heat of the desert sun, the cold water was both refreshing and painful at the same time. Haynes’ eyes opened wide and he saw that his wrists and ankles were tied to four small posts. He had been tied to the posts in such a way that he lay on the rough desert floor in a X
position. The hot sun beat down on Haynes, and he could feel the heat on his face and the rough ground on his back.
Wake up, sleepy-head! Best you be awake to witness your own death! I want you to be aware and alert for every second of your own suffering!
It was Amos Well, the leader of the three-man gang, that spoke. Amos was better known as Kid Cruel for his insanity and penchant for inflicting severe cruelty on others and enjoying it. They said that if you crossed Kid Cruel it was probably better that you pull the trigger on yourself, than have him kill you, because he wouldn’t just kill you. He would torture you and smile.
Today, Kid Cruel was enjoying himself a little more than usual. He pranced across Haynes’ on the desert ground and began dancing a bizarre jig, clasping the air around him and arching his back like some cobra if it could stand on two legs. His arms began to swing in wild abandon as if he were juggling some imaginary balls.
I relish in the suffering of others!
he said, clutching and punching the air around him.
His gangmates looked at each other with wide eyes. They found their leader’s behavior eccentric at best, and at worst downright insane. Of course, they would never tell that to Amos Well’s face.
The reasons for Haynes’ current predicament were inconsequential. Kid Cruel had killed men for more trivial reasons before. The reason itself did not really matter, but the method of torture did.
What have you done?
Haynes said.
Well, laughed maniacally at the air.
What does it look like I’ve done, Haynes? I’ve tied you all up in the middle of the desert!
Haynes struggled with his bonds, but Kid Cruel and his men had tied him firmly enough. There was no way he was wriggling free. The reality of the situation started to dawn on Haynes and he struggled even more. It was all futile. There was no way to get free.
"You see now your fate, don’t you? I’m going to leave you here out in the desert with no food or drink. No way to get out or untangle yourself. If dehydration and the sweltering heat doesn’t get you first, the vultures will slowly peck at you until you die. Or maybe you’ll starve to death. Or maybe your heart will give out from the heat. Or maybe...?
