About this ebook

The first thing I noticed about the bullfighter was his loud and booming voice. That was the first thing that would have struck anyone about him.
I was seated in the middle of the small, but packed arena in the middle of Mexico. Beside me was Ronaldo Matanza one of the wealthier men in the bario. Matanza was a wealthy and powerful man with his own group of regulators that watched him wherever he went. His power reached far from just the tiny bario he lived in, and it was not a good idea to cross him.

The Memoirs of the Bounty Hunter - John J. Law

    One: The Proposition

    Ole!

You will enjoy this for sure, my friend! he said, as he nudged me.

The crowd all around us were as excited and enthusiastic as Matanza. I looked down and saw the matador, the object of their cheers.

He was colorfully dressed in his red and black bullfighter garb. The man was quite tall and carried himself with stature and confidence. This was the kind of man that was not lacking in confidence. If anything, he was the kind of man that grabbed everyone's attention, wherever he went.

    I love you all!

We could all hear his voice as he addressed the crowd. The fact that he could speak above the noisy din of the crowd was something fascinating in and of itself. The man had a lot of charm and charisma and the people loved him for it. He waved to them, and they reciprocated with even more cheers.

That is the matador, one of the most popular men in all of Mexico!

    I can see that Ron.

Matanza said, pointing down to the man below. I frowned and remained unmoved in my seat. I was not impressed.

The name is Ronaldo, Bounty Hunter.

There was more than a hint of annoyance in Ronaldo Matanza's voice. He could tell that I was mocking him with my tone of voice. I guess he did have a point. I was probably one of the few men alive who had the stones to make fun of Ronaldo Matanza in his face like that. Well, modesty aside, I think I had gained more than enough experience to do just that. After all, I had taken down my fair share of bounties and gained a fearsome reputation for myself.

I don't like being made fun of, but since I am of a magnanimous sort, I can let such a remark slide. Why don't you sit back and enjoy the show, like everyone else? The matador makes an art of killing as you shall soon see. Surely a man like yourself would appreciate someone so skilled in the killing arts.

Matanza described killing reverently as if it were some kind of art form. I had heard it described before in such a manner by drunk scribes or men that had never held a gun or killed a man before. Matanza was neither. If anything, he was probably one of the most powerful men
