About this ebook
Like most great legends of the West no one really knew who Kid Dangerous was, or where he truly came from. His real name was shrouded in mystery, forever lost in the mists of time, and ultimately, forgotten. What was remembered however were his deeds and the consequences of his actions. For that he was known as Kid Dangerous, a young man that brought death, danger and gunsmoke wherever he went.
This tale is all about one of the kid's adventures before he made a name for himself. It was in many ways one of the many adventures that led to him becoming a legend. Chapter One
Trouble Rides Into Town Like a Hurricane
Sheriff James Toole was a good man. Some would say that the sheriff was not just a good man, but an upright man. Unfortunately, it's the good men that often suffer the most indignities in this life.
Toole had lost his wife and mother of Casey not to something like the consumption, some act of God or anything of the sort. No, she had not passed on, and was very much still alive. Toole had lost his wife to another man. One day, she just ran off with a traveling salesman. In that one day, she had tossed out all their years of marriage and it broke poor James' heart. In many ways that was a lot more painful than losing someone to some disease or accident. The pain in his heart was so intense that he had to move out of their old residence with Casey. James Toole had to leave with his son, simply because the memories were too painful to bear. He just had to start over somewhere.
The small town of Whispering Willow was the perfect place for James and Casey to start fresh. It was a small backwoods town in the middle of nowhere. The population was small, and the people were very warm and welcoming. There was a small church where Casey could go to Sunday school and be educated the right way. Even his teacher Missy Faraday was actually nice and warm towards James. She was clearly attracted to him but James didn't notice. Even now, the memory of his wife and what she had done still haunted him.
It was a good thing that the town needed a sheriff. James was always pretty good with a gun and quite friendly. He campaigned for the post and was backed by the town mayor. James won handily in no small part, also because there was no one else running for the position.
Being a sheriff of a small town like Whispering Willow definitely had its perks. It wasn't like the boom towns in other territories that were literal magnets for drifting outlaws, fortune seekers, and badmen. Whispering Willow was also in the middle of nowhere, so there was just no reason for any wandering desperadoes to come strolling along in town. Sheriff Toole
