Kid Nowhere and The Bounty Hunters - John J. Law

    Chapter One: A New Job

His name was Bart Samson, but sometimes, even he wasn't sure. The young man had been wandering so long under so many aliases, that he didn't really know anymore. It seemed as though all he ever really knew was a life on the run, constantly trying to keep ahead of the long arm of the law. The kid would often hide out and go wherever the wind took him. He was always trying to escape the law, but the law had a nasty habit of always catching up. Still, the kid always managed to stay one step ahead. It was for this kind of lifestyle that he was called "’Kid Nowhere’ or ‘The Nowhere Kid’.

They said that Kid Nowhere would often pop up whenever, or wherever. Some even said that he rode on the winds and clouds themselves popping up where he fancied. The truth of course was much grimmer than that.

Bart Samson was on the run for a murder charge. Some said that he didn't want to do it, that he was forced to kill a man under duress, self-preservation or some other justifiable cause. Others say the whole charge itself was trumped up. They say that deep down, Bart was a gentle soul who wouldn't really hurt anyone. Either way, the kid became a wanderer, a vagabond on the run that only had his wits and his skills with a gun to defend himself.

And what skills did he have! The Nowhere Kid was one of the fastest draws in the West. Some even said that he was the fastest, a true prodigy with the six-shooters. They said that his aim and accuracy were with without equal. They said that he could shoot a hawk over his head with the sun in his face, or that he could draw his gun and take out more than five men in less than a second. Perhaps those tales were true, or a mite bit exaggerated. Either way, one thing was certain. Bart Samson was a tortured soul looking for a place to settle down and live a quiet life.

Bart tired of all the running and the gunfights. He just wanted to live an ordinary life like most settlers, without worrying about the law or the price on his head. And when he rode into that small, nondescript town one fine morning, he thought he had actually found that quiet life he was looking for.

There was nothing out of the ordinary about the small town that young Bart Samson rode into. The town was small and quiet and you would be hard pressed to find it on any map. The Nowhere Kid had wandered into another obscure corner of the wild west. He wasn't sure where he was, but he was used to this by now. Besides, the town did look quiet and friendly-like. The people seemed to be tame and minded their own business. The main road was clean and free
