About this ebook

He poured some more whiskey down his shot glass and offered Heisman some for himself. Heisman accepted, and Wilkens poured some of the alcohol into his bottle. Heisman was a moderate drinker himself, but nowhere near as prodigious as Wilkens was.
"It's fine. I reckon you've truly a taste for good whiskey." Heisman said.
"And you want to write your dime novel. I might as well oblige you with some of my fancy tales. After all, you are paying for the tab here!"
"I'm more than happy to oblige with more whiskey as long as you keep the stories rolling." Heisman said.

More Tales of the Cannibal Mountain Man - John J. Law

    Chapter One: Surviving a Scalping

The barkeep rolled out another bottle of whiskey for Cody Wilkens and Paul Heisman. Heisman had agreed to pay for another bottle of whiskey, in return for more of Wilkens' tales of daring and adventure. Wilkens was more than happy to oblige the struggling writer. Heisman was also more than happy to keep the drinking spree going as he was eager to learn more about the infamous Cannibal Mountain Man. With his colorful life, Wilkens had more than enough potential source material for the dime novel that Heisman was trying to write.

Thank you for your kind generosity! Wilkens said.

He poured some more whiskey down his shot glass and offered Heisman some for himself. Heisman accepted, and Wilkens poured some of the alcohol into his bottle. Heisman was a moderate drinker himself, but nowhere near as prodigious as Wilkens was.

It's fine. I reckon you've truly a taste for good whiskey. Heisman said.

And you want to write your dime novel. I might as well oblige you with some of my fancy tales. After all, you are paying for the tab here!

I'm more than happy to oblige with more whiskey as long as you keep the stories rolling. Heisman said.

Wilkens took another gulp of the whiskey.

Boy you do want to write that dime novel, don't you? Back in my time, only a privileged few could read an' write. Most people made a living the way God intended them to, by their hands and the sweat from their brow.

Heisman couldn't help but frown a little at Wilkens' snide remark. It was something of a subtle verbal jab, and it definitely hit the mark. As a struggling writer, Heisman used his brain instead of his muscles for work. A man like Wilkens had definitely earned the respect of people around him for his hard work and efforts, but he had no idea just how difficult the thinking process could be. For a man like Wilkens, Heisman was not doing real work, and Heisman found this more than a little offensive. Despite his feelings however, he held his tongue and reserved commenting. After all, he still had a story to write and Wilkens was the man to complete it.

When it's done, it will be a page turner, I guarantee it! And your life will be forever immortalized with the other budding legends of this era.

Wilkens shook his head and shrugged off Heisman's words.

Your flattery will do no good here, Heisman. Men like me, well we did do terrible things, I reckon. Things that will surely be written about I guess. Even if we probably don't deserve to be immortalized in stories an' legend. After all, all we did was just survive.

Heisman paused before speaking. When you live through some really rough times, sometimes just surviving is enough to for people to remember you for. Heisman said.

Heisman showed incredible depth and nuance. Enough depth and nuance to understand and respect
