LORE AT THE LIBRARY

The British Library is running an exhibition about fantasy literature called Realms of Imagination which starts on 27 October and runs until 25 February next year. It will feature everything from ancient texts to anime, Sir Gawain to The Sandman, fairy tales and films to graphic novels, video games and fan culture, and promises to ‘dive deep into some of fantasy literature’s defining moments’. The exhibition will illustrate the varied ways in which readers are enchanted by fantasy, and how it can serve as both an escape from and a reflection on the world we live in.

The exhibition is supported in part by the Unwin Charitable Trust, and it was Stanley Unwin who originally published In defence of escapism the author of that epic,
