The Cannibal Mountain Man - John J. Law
Chapter One: The Cannibal
It was just another typical night at the small saloon in the remote and secluded town. The town was in the middle of nowhere and was not marked on most maps. The town was so small and inconspicuous that most people didn't even know its name. Some of its residents weren't even sure if the small town ever had a name. It was usually just known as ‘that small little town’ or ‘the little town out of the way’ or other titles like that. One would be hard-pressed to find it, and most travelers passed it over, simply because they weren't even aware of where it was. But make no mistake the small town was there, and it was quite a rowdy town for its small size.
For a town that seemed so mundane and forgettable, it actually had its fair share of unusual occurrences. The town was put up during the gold rush and had seen its fair share of fortune seekers, desperate men and miscreants running away from the law or something else. It was here in the small town with no name that Cody ‘Cannibal’ Wilkens arrived. The old mountain man was known for many other monikers. Some called him ‘the Eater of Savages' Souls’ or ‘the Crow Nightmare’ after the tribe he was most famously known to have feuded with. But it was his original nickname of the Cannibal
that stuck. It was the name most people remembered him by, because of his infamous actions against the Crow tribe.
The Cannibal was a large man with a large belly and a thick beard. He had large, muscular pythons for arms with muscles that often bulged out. He also towered over most men of the time making him a very intimidating individual indeed. When the Cannibal stepped into a room, most people took notice, and it was no exception at the saloon that night.
When the Cannibal entered the saloon, he was so tall that his head almost touched the old wood ceiling of the saloon. He could easily reach up and touch the low-hanging chandelier that hung over everyone's heads. With each step he took, the ground seemed to shake from each step's sheer weight.
The Cannibal was dressed in his usual attire of a fur shirt and cap, faded and worn chaps and deer leather moccasins. He also had a long and thick beard that easily reached his chest. The Cannibal was also armed to the teeth with his rifle, pistol and large Bowie knife.
Aside from his very distinct appearance, another thing that stood out from the Cannibal was his smell. He smelled of a strange mix of wood, leaves and animal droppings that was quite strong and offensive. Of course, the patrons of the saloon were not exactly clean and neat themselves. The whole saloon reeked of alcohol and spent cigarettes. There was even a thick cloud of cigarette smoke that hung over the saloon as the men
