Sam Granger The Greatest Texas Ranger You Never Heard Of - John J. Law

    Introduction

The Wild West was won by the efforts of many great men and women. The great country that is the USA was born from tireless sacrifices and countless conflicts, many of which have been lost to time.

The Texas Rangers were one of the most significant groups during this tumultuous period of nation-building. Created by the Father of Texas, Stephen F. Austin, the rangers were tireless in patrolling the border from all manner of threats, upholding the law and always catching their man. The Texas Rangers' significance and contribution to the formation of the young country into what it would become now, is immeasurable. Its members were involved in many legendary exploits, including foiling an assassination attempt on President William Howard Taft; and the apprehension of such notorious outlaws like Sam Bass and John Wesley Hardin. These and many of the other exploits of the Texas Rangers have been recorded throughout history. However, many other significant exploits have not. Many of the greatest Texas Rangers and their own exploits of derring-do have been lost to time. This is one such tale, about one such individual, Sam Granger.

He was not there when they had apprehended that no-account John Wesley Hardin, but Granger wished he was there. He was more than eager to prove his worth to the organization, and he felt that now he would get that chance.

Granger sat in the living room of the Uptons, and he could not help but let his eyes wander. There was just so much to see, and it was clear that the Uptons were of a wealthy sort.

    Here's your tea and biscuits.

It seemed as if Mrs. Upton had prepared the tea a lot sooner than Granger expected. His eyes wandered around the large house that he didn't notice the time. There were several animal heads, all around, mounted on the walls. Granger was familiar with some of the animals, but some were unknown and looked almost monstrous. He would reckon that some of them would look better with that eccentric showman, P.T. Barnum, and his travelling show of oddities than in a private collection.

Sorry, I did not notice you come back. Your husband has amassed quite a collection of mounted trophies.

"Bob fancies himself a hunter, and I guess he has the mounted heads to
