    Chapter 1

    The Calm Before the Storm

Aah, pumpkin soups are the best, smiles Pyen as he sits on a bench outside with a bowl of soup in his hand.

It has been five days since the villagers returned to the Overworld. Because they had no way of contacting other villagers, they decided to build a temporary base around the nearby Nether Portal. Every day, a random group is sent to explore the surrounding areas and search for villages. Unfortunately, no matter where they looked, all the towns they found were destroyed by the illagers.

The villagers have yet to give up. However, after spending many days in the Nether facing countless dangerous situations, the residents of Lekter no longer feared any obstacles. Their bond is stronger than ever. Nothing can stop them now.

I never thought I’d miss pumpkin soup this much, Pyen resumes, I swear, I will never go back to that painful dimension ever again.

Irty sighs, Okay, okay. We got it, but don’t talk while eating. You’re spilling your food all over the place!

    Huh? Why not?

First, your clothes will get dirty. Second, people will compare you to illagers in the future because of your way of eating. Third, no one else will want to sit next to you.

But you and Derky are sitting next to me right now. I see no problem.

That’s because we’ve known each other since childhood. We’re already used to it, but others? I doubt it.

What my friends think of me is all that matters. Anyways, check this out: I will drink all this soup in one go.

Pyen immediately starts to chug down the soup without even breathing. Due to that, he accidentally chokes and pukes all over the ground. The soup was even coming out from his big nose.

Eww, you dummy. Who told you that was a good idea? Irty says as she jumps back, Say something to him, Derky.

Derky turns around with her mouth stuffed full of bread, asking, Whad you sey…?

Not you too! Gosh, you two are so unbelievable. Also, swallow before talking. You’ll choke like him if you talk with food in your mouth.

Maggie comes out from a nearby building and spots them skirmishing, so she closes in on them. She giggles, Just a few days ago, you were on the verge of turning into a zombie, yet here you are now, having a banter with Derky and Pyen as if nothing happened.

Well, my body is still weak, but someone has to look after these two. It baffles me that they survived for so long without me. How did they even manage that?

Determination to save you, perhaps? You’re all good friends, after all. If the same thing happened to them, you would also give your all, right?

    Y-yes…I would.

Suddenly, a villager runs up to them from afar, shouting, Everyone! Our savior is doing something weird; come look! Derky immediately stands up after hearing him.

Huh, our savior is doing what?! she asks, her eyes glowing, Let’s go. We need to take a look. If we are lucky enough, we might end up learning something new.

Derky grabs Irty’s hand and begins to run as fast as she can. Pyen, still coughing, follows them right after to not be left out. Maggie stays behind, sighing, They forgot to wash their bowls. Whatever, I’ll do it for them. I’ll make sure to tell them next time, though.

By the time the three friends reached the base center, Steve was already surrounded by dozens of villagers. Derky pushes through the crowd, still holding Irty, to get a better look at what he could be doing. What did we miss? she asks a nearby villager.

Not much, the villager replies, He recently took two blocks from the inactive portal. No idea what he’s going to do with them, but we’ll see.

Steve pulls out an Ender Pearl and some Blaze Powder. In front of him was a crafting table, and he used it to combine the two items, creating an Eye of Ender. It was the first time the villagers had seen something like this. Steve then put it at the center of the crafting table and then placed eight obsidian blocks around it.

The items begin to merge, turning into a single object. Thus, an Ender Chest was crafted. The villagers were, obviously, in awe. Time and time again, Steve showed them things beyond their wildest imaginations. To them, there was no one greater than him.

Derky grins, As expected of our savior. He invented a new item in front of us!

Pfft, invented? I doubt that, but he sure did craft something very new to us, Pyen scoffs jokingly, Although, I wonder if that chest is different from normal chests.

Of course, it would be different. Didn’t you see the items he used?

Steve takes off his enchanted diamond armor and stores it inside the chest, along with his other enchanted gear. After that, he pulls out a compass and starts examining it as he walks through the base. Curious, one villager approaches the Ender Chest and opens it, but he finds nothing inside. How come?! the villager gasps, We all saw him put his equipment inside, right?

Are you sure you didn’t break the chest? Check it again, advises another villager.

They close and open it again, but there is still nothing. Could it be magic? W-witchcraft?! Pyen stutters, There’s no way he has connections with those big-nosed illagers, right?

Derky responds aggressively, That can’t be the case! He is our savior! If he was an enemy, he wouldn’t save Irty, right?

That is very true, Irty slowly nods.

Immediately, Steve looks in their direction as if he heard something. Examining the area, he tries to figure out the location of the source of the noise.

Let’s scatter! I think he is angry at us for tinkering with his chest, urges Derky as she backs away. The other villagers agree and leave the area soon after.

Weird, Steve wonders, I swear I heard someone talk. It didn’t even sound like Alex.

Finding his friend proved to be a very challenging task for Steve. Even after returning to the Overworld, he still had no idea where to go or search. Without any clues, it was impossible for him to find Alex. For now, his mind was set on finding his old base, where he and Alex were last together.

Anyways, how far away am I from home? he continues, I have to find it soon if the illagers are trying to awaken Herobrine. I don’t know much about him, but judging from the books I found in his temple in the Nether Fortress, he is extremely dangerous. Without a doubt, he is the one who appeared in my dream. Alex must be involved in this, somehow.

Steve then breaks the Ender Chest and puts it inside his inventory, getting ready for a long journey. He was low on food, so he decided to pay a visit to Maggie and buy bread from her.

A single vex soars in the sky above the villagers’ base, unnoticed. It continued to scout the area until it heard a whistle from the nearby forest. The mob falls back and returns to its owner, an evoker. After dashing through the woods and landing on the evoker’s arm, it whispered what it saw to him.

Ah, I see, the evoker nods. He then rushes to his leader to tell the news. There were many illagers hiding in the forest, each one paying attention to every single move the villagers make. If they were led by any other leader, they would’ve immediately raided the base, but their leader was different than the others. Cunning and patient, always analyzing the situation to make the best move, her name was Sana the Assassin.

There used to be tales about a certain infamous thief in every town. One that’s so quiet and unnoticeable that they can effortlessly steal a chest from a room full of illagers. However, one day the rumors stopped.

One day, the infamous thief decided to steal from a Pillager Outpost. They were confident in their ability because they had already stolen from several outposts in the past. However, this one was different. Inside the outpost was Hart the Dark Hero, who was yet to become a raid leader.

Right before the thief touched their prized chest, Hart grabbed them. But, instead of beating them up, he commended them on their ability and made the thief join the illagers. That thief was Sana. From then on, tales about her began to spread throughout towns once more—not as a thief but as an assassin.

Leader, the unknown ally of the villagers seems like he is about to leave their base, the evoker said after closing in
