One day, Scary Fairy arrives in Wicked Wood. Immediately the little creature disturbs the peace among the animals of the forest : She discards Squirrel's hazelnuts to make her new bedroom and uses Hedgehog as a hair brush without even asking ! Really upset at first, the animals learn to know and love the newcomer, having extraordinary adventures.I fell in love with this adorable book. Attracted by the cover and the title, I really enjoyed the story as well. Divided in eleven small chapters, it is an easy read that should enchant children. Scary Fairy in Wicked Wood has a 19e century atmosphere and reminds me of stories such as Peter Rabbit or Frog and Toad. The illustrations by Slovene children’s author Jana Bauer are breathtaking. I can spend hours looking at all the small details of the images. I love the character of Scary Fairy. She first appears as a bad tempered child that doesn’t care about others. But the character rapidly evolves, as we understand that she is just sad and alone. Banished by her grandmother, she finds a new family among the animals.The animals are all interesting characters, with their own unique personalities : Owl is very wise and does its best to counsel all the animals. Squirrel is always stressed and fears to lose its precious nuts. Hedgehog is grumpy and often in a bad mood. There are also Bear, Rabbit and her babies, Dormouse and many other small and big creatures in the wood.Scary Fairy in Wicked Wood is a very sweet surprise and a perfect read for Springtime. After reading it, you may even look for a teapot and a balloon carried by the Southern Wind.
