    ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

F irst and foremost, I would like to thank the spirit that moves through me guided by a higher power which people attribute many names to like God or Allah, which gave me the source of inspiration to write this book. Second, I would like to thank my source of inspiration; my children. Jahvay and Ocean, Reading this book to you gave me the confidence to publish it so others could experience the Legend! I would also like to thank my family and friends for being supportive and loving throughout the years. I couldn’t have done much without my community. A special thanks goes out to my cousin Kareen Blair for her contribution to both the story and the cover art, you are the other side to my coin Sis! A big thank you also goes out to my childhood friend Israel Amadi whose contribution to the story gave it that little bit of extra magic which was just right. Thanks to Everybody who has put in effort to get this book published, I literally couldn’t have done it without you. Literally! Lastly, I would like to thank the urban animals, for allowing me to tell their greatest story to humans. I hope I haven’t let you down. I’ve learnt from this tale not to let anything get you down. Because what goes around, surely comes back ar ound.

    Peace.

    PRELUDE

T he night was calm with a hint of cool breeze. Puddles left behind by the rain were set glistening with the light from the street lamps on the residential road in Tottenham, London.

All was quiet on the street; lights from people’s homes softly touched the dark night, but not a soul was on the road.

A set of headlights brightened the streets for a brief moment as a car approached and parked on the corner. Two figures were sitting and talking when a loud shriek made them both jump. One of the boys looked out the window. "Man! What was that? A cat?" he asked.

Yeah, I hear them all the time all over White Hart Lane and Edmonton, the other boy replied.

The first boy shook his head. "Must be some real cat wars going on, boy!"

    They both cracked up laughing.

Deeper in the shadows, from where the terrible shrieks had arisen, three cats were squaring off against five rats. One rat was much bigger than the other rats; an eye patch covered his right eye, and a scar trailed from it all the way down his cheek. His other eye blazed blood-red. His eye narrowed as he smiled. Sirus, you need to tell your bwoy to stop screaming like a gal, he sneered in a coarse Jamaican accent.

The cat called Sirus held his gaze. You know this ain’t your ends, Red Eye, he hissed.

The whole world is my ends, the rat replied with pride, looking around him. The other rats started laughing, which made one of the cats shudder.

The third cat arched her back and hissed at the rats.

Easy, Isis, Sirus said coolly, his gaze never leaving Red Eye’s.

Let’s deal with this creep now, once and for all! He’s easy pickings, snarled Isis.

Red Eye smiled with a wicked look in his eye. Your brudda didn’t tink dat!

With a flash of rage, Sirus leapt on Red Eye. The cats rushed the rats, and all hell broke loose as they all began fighting. In the distance, the sound of barking grew louder and louder.

The dogs are coming! Isis yelled.

They all scattered to safety in their various directions.
