Whence They Came: Sci-Fi Sizzlers, #5

About this ebook
Sometimes, the stories come true...
Across oceans and ages, the same tales have persisted.
The lights in the sky. The whirring sounds at night.
The ships that cross the darkness and the headaches that come when they pass overhead.
But for some, the feelings have intensified. Recently it all feels... closer.
EJ, a humble artist, senses that the long-foreseen arrival is imminent.
Denounced as a self-promoter seeking attentions and fame, he finds few listeners but never stops trying to raise the alarm.
When dusk falls, the prophecy rains down.
Within minutes it becomes clear that the planet isn't big enough for two dominant species.
Something has to give — tonight.
But for EJ and everyone around him, outmatched by an invading force from another world, it may already be too late...

The children have nothing to gain by making all of this up.
That’s been the crux of my argument for the past seventeen nights, ever since they started reporting the sounds coming from the sky and the strange feelings that come with them. The Civic Directors have finally caved and agreed to a public meeting tonight, if only because they want to try to nip this in the bud before anyone starts thinking there’s some kind of conspiracy going on.
I don’t think there is, but I also don’t think there’s not.
I don’t know what has been going on since the witness reports started coming in, but I do know there has to be something behind them. For one thing, there was no trickle — just a flash flood… an avalanche… whatever you want to call it, a sudden tsunami of reports saying the exact same things.
I’ve heard from other teachers across the region, and some of their students started saying the same things on the same day. Sure, in theory something like that could be a coordinated prank. But there are some kids in my classes who I would trust as much as anyone on the planet, and I know a frightened truth when I see one.
There’s one extra variable that I don’t want to put too much weight behind, but I think it’s worth acknowledging: I had the dream again last night.
It’s the only thing in my head as I make the short walk to school, where my students will no doubt be waiting to tell me what last night brought their way. More than a few of them have told me that I’m the only adult who listens without calling them crazy, and today I’m going to listen closer than ever so I can pass on every detail at
