    To Be A Father - J. Colbert

    1

    Dedication

This dedication is to God, my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, the creator of all. I have written this book with the intention of bringing glory to my Heavenly Father by using the gifts that the Lord has blessed me with to lead others to Him. Thank You, God!

I offer this collection of writings to be used according to Your will, Lord, and not my own desires. May it reach and teach Your children, guide them, heal them, and uplift them. May Your will be done for Your children!

    Amen.

Chapter 1: To Be A Father

    2

    To Be A Father

To be a father, a real leader, and a man of God,

You have to fight your own demons in silence,

While helping others battle their demons out loud.

Sometimes, you just want to cry, scream, and

    break down, but you can't.

    All eyes are on you for strength;

You're the voice of reason, even when things seem senseless,

To remind that God has a higher purpose,

    and everything is meant,

    Even though mentally, you're drained.

    You have to uplift;

You have to make others believe

    So they can achieve,

Hiding your pain so no one can see.

I do all this while grappling with one bad decision

That has permanently impaired my vision.

When all the social media rip posts and phone calls ceased,

This pain, down to my soul, this hole in my heart, this void in

    my life, didn't cease.

The hole, the pain, actually grows with every passing

hour, minute, and second on the clock.

So at times, I find it therapeutic

To escape my reality in these pharmaceuticals.

I don't want to hear, It's all part of God's plan,

You didn't have to stand where I stood and watch

As they placed your oldest son in a bag, then in

the back of a coroner's van.

I'm just a man, so I can't see how that image was part

    of some great plan.

Stop telling me, It's okay; it's God's work,

When every time I want to have a conversation with my son,

I have to go and talk to dirt.

So you're telling me, then, God's work is hurt?

Yes, I still believe in God; yes, I'm strong.

This is not about my strength; I know how to hold on.
