Wilderness Fruits: Eclectic Poems And Musings (Volume 1)
()
About this ebook
The wilderness is an uncultivated, uninhabited, and inhospitable place. A spiritual wilderness is therefore, a place of isolation, desolation and unproductivity. A vast empty and barren state so, imagine wandering through the wilderness and unexpectedly stumbling across a solitary tree loaded with ripened exotic fruits ready to be plucked.

Being Human
BEING HUMAN
1
I'm Only Human
Although I mean well
Sometimes I do wrong
I do not always get it right
And sometimes I do fail
But don’t be quick to judge
Because I’m only human
At times I ought to be strong
I have instead been weak
And I buckle and stumble
In spite of my power and might
But don’t despise or ridicule
Because I’m only human
Although I am wise
Sometimes I’ve been foolish
And done things I shouldn’t do
Only to be left with regret
But don’t be quick to condemn
Because I’m only human
I’m only human
But this is no excuse
To do what I know is wrong
Nor is it justification
For failing when I shouldn’t
I’m simply letting you know
That you’re also only human.

I Am A Human
Adam’s feet wandered spritely through the wilderness of creation
Enthralled by the wonder and beauty which left his eyes mesmerised
Causing his mind to wander in wonder, wondering who he was.
Who am I?
Am I a mountain, because I am imposing, intimidating and
insurmountable?
Am I an ocean, because I am loud, fierce and unassailable?
Am I a tree, because I stand tall, towering above all and
unreachable?
Am I a volcano, because the words erupting from my lips are
unquenchable?
Who am I?
Am I a lion, because I am the king of the Jungle Earth?
Am I a whale, because I am the queen of the Sea of Life?
Am I an eagle, because I reign over and above the earth?
Am I a scorpion, because I am king of the world beneath?
Who am I?
Certainly, I am more:
I am an enigmatic mystery bound without limits
I am fearfully and lovingly made, in the image of my Creator
I am the visible image of the Invisible God
I am Adam, Man, a human
I am a human.

Ageless
Several millennia after Adam, the moon was full and very bright
As two friends went for a walk close to midnight
One friend pointed to the sky and said to his friend,
"The moon you see up there is the same moon Adam saw in the
beginning."
A remark so succinct yet very profound
It is, isn’t it?
replied the friend surprised, his mind wandering in
wonder
Back to the time before the beginning:
Let there be light!
boomed the Voice over the darkness
And there was light, as the beginning began
Heaven and Earth unchanging, unending, life without end
As it was in the beginning so it is and ever shall be
The sun remains as it was in the beginning
Undiminished in size or shape, undimmed in brightness or
luminosity
Continuing on its circuit through Space, on its ordained path
At the same speed, in the same direction, as in the beginning
Just as the moon remains as it was in the beginning
Appearing at dusk and disappearing at dawn
Playing hide-and-seek with all who behold her
Ageless and unchanged as in the beginning
But not humans who though made in the image of the Creator
As unchanging, ageless, limitless and immortal
Relinquished all in exchange for the forbidden
No longer remaining as they were in the beginning
Should I cry for Adam or weep for the lost glory of humanity?
Should I bemoan my mortality as I groan under the burden of age?
Why should I?
When after I die I become ageless as in the beginning.

Humane
We are humans! Yes, we are
But we are commonly defined by how we look:
Tall hunk, leggy blonde, slim and sexy, or with eyes to die for
Or by what we have or do:
Wealthy banker, rich aristocrat, talented surgeon, or beauty queen
But rarely by what truly makes us human:
Compassionate, passionate, kind-hearted, empathetic, loving
Respectful, polite, courteous, considerate, humble
Or loyal, trustworthy, faithful, integrous, humane
We are humans! Yes, we are
But how human are we?
How much humanity resides within us?
In terms of what makes us truly human
Are we simply human beings?
Or are we humane humans?
We are humans! Yes, we are
But we are true humans only when we are humane
We are humans! Be human, be humane.

Who Am I?
Who am I?
Am I who I think I am or am I who they think I am?
Am I who I ought to be or am I who they have made me?
Am I trying to be who I ought to be or who they want me to be?
Am I to be my true self or am I to be their version of me?
Am I the sociable extrovert I wish I am because everyone says it is
cool?
Or am I the reclusive introvert which my behaviour reveals me to
be?
Am I as open-minded as I proclaim I am?
Or am I biased and opinionated as my attitude implies?
Who am I?
Am I as loving and liberal as my public behaviour suggests?
Or am I hateful and bigoted as my secret conducts reveal?
Am I the generous altruist I act as though I am?
Or am I the selfish self-centred person revealed by my actions?
Have I honoured to deliberately understand who I
