POETIC MEDITATIONS
1
All Is Vanity
Vanity of vanities,
says the Preacher.
"Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance]
is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke,
a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind]."
(Ecclesiastes 1: 2 AMP)
Every day we strive and labour
Every day we plan and take action
Every day we acquire and accumulate
As every day we try to make a living
Every day we dream and aspire
Every day we pursue our dreams
Every day we raise our ambition
As every day we try to make a living
Every day we hope for a better tomorrow
Every day we edge closer to the grave
Every day we fail to live
As every day we try to make a living
One day we will discover that
Life does not consist in our possessions
When after we die we, leave them all behind
And only then realise that all is vanity.
Reflection
Spend some moments reflecting on the vanity
of failing to live while trying to make a living.
2
Wealthy Place
Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads;
We went through fire and through water:
But thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
(Psalms 66: 12 KJV)
Great is your goodness, O Lord
Working in strange and uncertain ways
Your wonders to perform
You are perfect in all your ways
Great is your wisdom, O Lord
Using foolishness to confound the wise
And weakness to overcome the mighty
You are perfect in all your ways
Great is your faithfulness, O Lord
You tried and proved us, as by fire
Only to bring us to a wealthy place
You are perfect in all your ways.
Reflection
Spend some moments reflecting on God’s plan to bring you
to a place of abundance through your trials and tribulations.
3
Way-Maker
Behold, I will do a new thing;
now it shall spring forth;
shall ye not know it?
I will even make a way in the wilderness,
and rivers in the desert.
(Isaiah 43: 19 KJV)
When I trust and obey
His guidance and direction
Even through the wilderness
God will make a way
When I walk the path
Where He leads me
Even where there is no way
God will make a way
When I labour in the field
Where He has called me
Even when strength fails
God will make a way
When at last I am done
And it is time to go home
Even when I know not how
God will make a way.
Reflection
Spend some moments reflecting on God’s ability
to make a way where it seems there is no way.
4
Strength For The Weak
He giveth power to the faint;
and to them that have no might
he increaseth strength.
(Isaiah 40: 29 KJV)
Strength will rise
As I wait patiently on God
Silently seeking His face
To do what He promised
Strength will rise
As I do what He bids me
Persistently and faithfully
Despite opposition and resistance
Strength will rise
As I cling to Him
In season and out of season
Even when all else fails
Strength will rise
As I grow weary and weak
Because in my weakness
God’s strength is made perfect in me.
Reflection
Spend some moments reflecting on
the joy of the Lord as the source of your strength.
5
Shout For Victory!
And it came to pass at the seventh time,
when the priests blew with the trumpets,
Joshua said unto the people,
Shout;
for the LORD hath given you the city.
(Joshua 6: 16 KJV)
Shout!
When the cloud over you is darkened
And problems never rain but pour
There is victory ahead
Shout!
When surrounded by many armies
And the battle is set in array
There is victory ahead
Shout!
When friends misunderstand you
And abandon and forsake you
There is victory ahead
Shout!
When your trials are endless
And you despair and are perplexed
There is victory ahead
Shout!
When you’ve trusted and obeyed
And there is nothing left to do
There is victory ahead.
Reflection
Are you faced with insurmountable challenges?
Faith sings in victory in the midst of battle.
6
Step-By-Step
The steps of a [good and righteous] man
are directed and established by the Lord,
And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].
(Psalms 37: 23 AMP)
Step by step God leads me
From the cradle to the grave
Through this journey called life
To accomplish His plans for me
Step by step God leads me
From the valley to the mountain
Through the changing scenes of life
To bring me to an expected end
Step by step God leads me
From sunrise to sunset
Through the many seasons of life
As I trust and obey Him.
Reflection
Are your daily steps ordered by God?
7
Strong Tower
The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
The righteous runs to it and is safe and set on high
[far above evil].
(Proverbs 18: 10 AMP)
Some trust in chariots
Some trust in horses
We trust in the name of the Lord
Some trust in riches
Some trust in wealth
We trust in the name of the Lord
Some trust in power
Some trust in might
We trust in the name of the Lord
Some trust in fame
Some trust in fortune
We trust in the name of the Lord
The name of the Lord
Is our strong tower
Where we are safe and secure.
Reflection
Where is your trust?

Beautiful Ending
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time:
also he hath set the world in their heart,
so that no man can find out the work that God maketh
from the beginning to the end.
(Ecclesiastes 3: 11 KJV)
All your plans, O Lord are good
You’ve appointed a time for every plan
When the time is right
You make everything beautiful
You set a time for me to be born
Even before my parents were born
At the appointed time I was born
You made everything beautiful
You set a time for every purpose in my life
Even before I was conceived and born
At the time appointed for each
You made everything beautiful
Although You make me wait at times
Even when I am tired of waiting
When the time is right
You make everything beautiful
Although the process is not always good
At times it looks bad, very bad
When the time is right
You make everything beautiful.
Reflection
Do not focus on how things are now.
God’s plans for you are for your good.
He will eventually make everything beautiful.
9
Not My Battle
The Lord will fight for you while you
[only need to] keep silent and remain calm."
(Exodus 14: 14 AMP)
When billows roll and tempests fall
And all hell is let loose around me
I shall be calm
The Lord will fight for me
When I am troubled on every side
And persecuted in every way
I shall be calm
The Lord will fight for me
When I am misunderstood by friends
And falsely accused by family
I shall be calm
The Lord will fight for me
When I am cast down and perplexed
And darkness suddenly overshadows me
I shall be calm
The Lord will fight for me.
Reflection
Are you threatened in any way?
Hold your peace and let God fight for you.
