    Dedication

    I dedicate this book to my husband, Dave, who lived these testimonies with me; my son and daughter-in-love, Michael and Lisa and my three grandkids, who started me thinking about writing down all God had done in my life;

    To my ministry partner, Scott, who kept asking to read my book;

    To my wonderful friends, Susan, Jo-Ellen, Rebecca, and Karen;

    And to my Bible study sisters who encouraged me to write this book: Linda, Deb, Andrea, Sue, Roberta, Beth, Brenda, Maggie, Mary, Colleen, Corrin, Denise, Kathryn, Natalie, and Jane. Special thanks to Beth who helped me with all of the computer requests.

    And especially to Sue who gave me a bookmark with this scripture:

    1 Peter 2:9 (TPT) But you are God’s chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual nation set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world. (Emphasis mine)

    God would then ask, Don’t you want to tell others what I have done in your life so I can do the same for them?

    And I would say, YES! I better start writing!

    Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

    And His greatness is unsearchable.

    One generation shall praise your works to another,

    And shall declare Your mighty acts.

    Psalm 145:3-4

    Introduction

    I wanted to write this book to give the glory to the LORD for all He has done in my life. As I have shared these stories with friends through the years, I started to realize how unusual some of these miracles were. In fact, just that I had miracles in my life was sometimes unusual, let alone a lot of them. The reasons for sharing these testimonies is to encourage people to believe God for miracles in their own lives and to let them know all the different kinds of miracles that can happen. God is so big and can influence our lives in so many ways. He always leads us to triumph in Christ. (2 Corinthians 2:14). He is the ultimate burden-taker and way-maker.

    Many times, people would be astounded at the unusual things I believed God did in my life. I think the Holy Spirit always nudged me to believe for these unusual things. So I also want to encourage people to listen to those quiet unctions. As the reader can see, God will help us in ALL or ANY area of our lives. He never ceases to amaze me.

    I then wanted to leave the testimonies for my grandchildren so they could learn about how they can trust God for whatever they need in life. I also wanted them to do more and greater miracles than what God had done for me. That is when I started writing the stories down. After writing over 35 pages of testimonies, I was surprised to see how many there were. Kids love to hear testimonies. Stories fascinate them, especially when they know that it happened to their Nana. That is even more impressive.

    Eventually, God led me to teach them how to recognize God’s voice and do what He said. We started notebooks of words and testimonies they received from God. Each grandchild had their own notebook which I kept at my house. I started encouraging them to write in their own book of testimonies at age five, when they were learning to write. Until then I helped them document what they heard or did in those earlier years. Children hear so easily. As they age, they remember some of what God has done or said to them. But sometimes they forget the common encounters, like healing. Oh yes, God healed my knee, my tummy, my headache … again. I think they will appreciate it more when they are older and realize how much God did for them.

    One other note I would like to make. In those early years, 1970’s -1990’s, I learned mostly on my own. I learned by watching other ministers who listened and followed the Holy Spirit’s lead. But now, there are many places where one can get schooled in or mentored in the things of the Spirit. That is a wonderful way to learn. Learning under someone who has experienced miracles and has a Biblical foundation is so very valuable. Getting teaching and encouragement is essential. In the Old Testament, there were Schools of the Prophets where people learned to hear God. Then of course the Lord Jesus taught the Twelve Disciples, then taught the Seventy, then more. That seems to be the model the Lord wants us to use. It is a wise one.

    The Beginning

    God Rescues Honey May

    Shirley, we will only go outside to look for Honey one more time. We hope we find her because it will be a very cold night. She might not survive outside. This was the last thing I heard from my parents before going to bed one cold night in the fall in Illinois. I was six or seven years old. Honey was my kitty and she was lost outside.

    My parents gave me a Siamese kitten when I was four or five years old. I named her Honey May Sue Lay. (My older sister’s cat was Candenese Louise or Candy, so my cat’s name had to rhyme too). I loved her very much. She was a house cat so she was not used to being outside. If she did escape to the outdoors, she usually only wandered a little.

    That day I went looking for her after school, calling her name, HONEY! She, being Siamese, usually was vocal and would answer me. My family started joining me in the hunt, looking for her all around the neighborhood. Up and down the blocks. Calling, calling but nothing, no answer. We could not find her.

    Finally, it was time for me to go to bed. I was so upset that we had not found her. My mother said that she and my dad would go out ONE more time to find her. It was in the fall, and that night was supposed to be very cold. If Mom and Dad did not find her, she might not make it… They were trying to prepare me for the worst. So I prayed... God, if you find my kitty cat, I will dedicate the rest of my life to You. God does not pass up those kinds of opportunities.

    In the morning, on my bed right beside me when I woke up, was HONEY! I was elated!!! There she was and she was okay. My mom said they went out to look for her one last time and found her under the front porch. Honey must have been afraid. Or God led her there. I don’t know. But they found her. And there she was back with me. God answered my prayer!!!

    Honey lived 13 more years!! She was a wonderful pet and companion. I soon forgot my pledge to God. But God did not. The next time I remember Him talking to me about our bargain was when I was in high school. Remember when you dedicated your life to Me after I rescued Honey for you? Oh, yeah, I do. But not knowing what to do about that, I soon forgot again. God would remind me of the bargain, time and time again. He did it in a gentle way; it came like a thought. I really did not know what to do about it.

    It was not until I was baptized in the Holy Spirit when I was 20 years old that I remembered and decided to honor my bargain with God, to seriously follow Him and give Him my life. I have never regretted making that bargain. It changed my life.

    Being Baptized in the Holy Spirit

    I started dating Dave when I was 15 and a junior in high school. We dated throughout high school and college. We married when we were in college. One of my college friends, Jan, was engaged to a guy named Phil. Phil walked Dave home one night and talked to him about an experience with God called the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Dave decided to receive it.

    The next morning, Dave called me and was SO excited about the Lord. Who was this guy? We were both Methodists. We had gone to different churches growing up and had been saved at different times under the ministry of the great Billy Graham. I was a faithful church goer. I even had an attendance pin with 11 bars (one for each year) to show that I never missed more than two Sundays any year. But I had never heard of this experience before.

    Dave was different. He was so excited about God and talked about God in a different way. I had not heard him excited about God like this. He prayed with me, and I was baptized in the Holy Spirit too. It changed my life. This was 1972. I later learned that this was during the Charismatic Outpouring. And I was in it.

    I married Dave in 1972, and Jan married Phil that same summer. We
