Has Anyone Told You What God Did for You? - Kim Bilyk
Iwas thirty-one years old before anyone told me about Jesus.
I was divorced and disillusioned, a single mother of two girls living far away from my family of origin. The girls’ father was even further away, having moved to another state. I felt alone and unsupported, desperate for meaning in my life and my children’s lives. I couldn’t make sense of the mess I believed I had made of my life. My life seemed irrevocably marred, never to recover.
I worked full time and tried to juggle family life and work and felt like a complete failure. I was the product of divorced parents myself. I went through the trauma of a split family and swore I would never put my own children through it. But here I was, fresh off a divorce, raising my kids and feeling like I was just treading water to survive.
I was raised by good parents, my mother and my stepfather. They did not attend church, and it didn’t seem to be important to them, or at least they didn’t talk about it. As far back as I could remember, I was curious about God. But I had little knowledge of him, so he seemed mysterious and distant to me, as if he had no real connection to people in their everyday lives. But my curiosity remained. God was an enduring part of our culture. How could I find out more about him?
I just kept thinking that somewhere, somebody had to know about God. I had also heard about Jesus. I had heard that Jesus was God’s Son. But what was the significance of that? How did God and his Son impact my life? Could they be important in my life? Where could I find out about them? How could
