About this ebook
What do you do when family and friends doubt the existence of God? How do you respond and are your Christian core beliefs on solid ground? Mike decided to research the atheist beliefs and confirm his natural belief in God and Jesus. Over three years, Mike read no less than eighty-four books by both Christian and atheist authors and reviewed multiple debates between Christians and atheists. In doing so, he established his common sense viewpoints that God's wisdom is present in this Universe, Mankind, Salvation and the Supernatural. This book is a compilation of Mike's common sense viewpoints, which are simple to understand. They are substantiated through the research writings of various Christian authors. The main concern of this book is that when your spirit leaves this life, you will have eternal happiness in the presence of Jesus. Validation of Mike's confirmation is his own supernatural experience of God's protection, which was outside the boundaries of science. The atheist premise that nothing happens outside the rules of science falls apart with Mike's experience and the experiences of many, many others. This book is an excellent source not just if you are searching for answers about Christianity and atheism, but it's an affirmation that God is love

My love and thanks to Pam, my wife of forty-six years and my soul mate. Pam helped guide me in formatting my words into this book. More importantly, Pam has been a Christian pillar making our marriage and spiritual journey grow together. I look forward to being with her in heaven.
To our children, in whom I see the love of Jesus as a gift to Pam and me.
Also thank you to my parents, Henry and Edna, for raising me in a God-loving environment and telling me about Jesus. As of this writing my dad is with the Lord and my mother is happily enjoying her twelve children, numerous grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Thanks to all the Christian authors whose books or writings reflect the love and existence of God our Creator. I enjoyed all the material you wrote. The Holy Spirit lives in you.
Most importantly, my thanks to the Lord for allowing me to acknowledge Him and His unlimited love for us. The Lord truly assisted me in my common sense analysis.
Opening Thoughts
When I became aware of the lack of faith, doubt, and even non-belief in God by so much of the world, I was put into a position to reanalyze my beliefs and why I believed in God. You go all your life with basic belief of God our Creator passed down by our Christian parents, education of the Christian schools and Christian friends. When non-believers simply say in confidence there is no God, you are suddenly pressed for answers on your beliefs and logic in God. You may find yourself tongue-tied or not ready to give your answer because you never have been so directly challenged about your beliefs.
It is not that your faith in God is any less but you are caught off guard on the depth of what is it that you believe and how to express it.
Non-believers rattle off statements, comments, analyses they read from intelligent atheists who are very good at using scientific reasoning to eliminate God because he is not in the formulas. The Bible is a bunch of made up stories and Jesus is a mythical person. Additionally, God cannot be there because of all the harm and bad things that go on in this world—continual fighting, various wars over the centuries, diseases that have killed millions of people, differences in the beliefs of God from country to country, the sins of all churches over time and the list goes on.
When you are taken out of your personal comfort zone of your beliefs, you need to dig deep within yourselves on why you believe what you believe. What facts outside the Bible support your beliefs? You need to understand this is not an overnight project, it will take time. For me, this deep analysis was a little over three years. In that time, I have read eighty-four books which included books by famous atheist and various prominent Christian writers. I have viewed various online debates between atheist and Christian leaders and researched various sites from the internet on atheist and Christian views.
At times I have been able to allow my mind to use that little human doubt of God and see how a non-believer can easily say, Where is God in all this?
Once you start doing that, you start judging God and setting up human standards and then God will never fit into your puzzle of life. You can live your life without believing in God. You can be happy and say I don't need God to be happy.
I honestly have to say my faith was never in doubt because there always has been something inside of me from my childhood that has kept me longing for God.
What the past three years of research, reading, writing, rewriting, praying, thinking and meditating has done for me is develop a richer belief in the love by God though His Son Jesus.
I can feel the real concept of death and that it is just around the corner for me. The older we get, the more we know it is real for us. As children's or teenagers' death does not seem real to us or is so far off that we don't think about it. Well, when you reach sixty-seven you know it is very real and you wonder how many more years you have.
So I have written my simple beliefs entitled 1 + 1= God
that describe how I believe God's wisdom is present with the universe, mankind, salvation and supernatural. Each chapter is associated directly and indirectly with the title and is different in length and explanation. I stuck to writing what I know and what I believe in.
The title itself can be interpreted differently. Mathematically, it adds up to 2. Common sense says, when you look at all the various denominators of creation, the possible reason for intellectual life, evidence for Jesus, the unexplainable supernatural circumstances, it all adds up to God's wisdom and involvement.
This book is a culmination of life experiences, personal relationships, personal experiences, religious family members and religious friends, and atheist friends and atheist family members. Plus during these last few years' constant reading of religious and non-religious material, research of supernatural experiences, and my belief in Jesus has reaffirmed my beliefs.
I believe common sense says scientists do not have all the answers. Common sense looks at the world and asks where wisdom came from to format evolution and set it in motion. Common sense can see the sins of mankind and realize that a Supreme Sacrifice is needed for the atonement for sins of mankind. Common sense will look at the extraordinary supernatural experiences and realize there is a greater power here. Common sense will recognize that if there was no life, no time, no space and it now exists that a Creator has to be recognized. Common sense says if one time there was no existence and now there is, with all considerations, spiritual life after physical death is a possibility.
Here I will note I also had a supernatural experience—a warning of an eminent danger. I am so fortunate that I can grab on to this experience. I will share this later in the book.
I would suggest you read my whole response before criticizing any chapter. The entire chapters support each other with the culmination of a simple summary.
If the days and hours of reading so many books, making notes over the last few years, finding time to work in my writings with my daily job, my prayers for this book to be correct, if this effort with the help of the Holy Spirit can turn one just person to God so they can have eternal happiness, I will consider it a success.
Introduction
As I mentioned in the Opening Thoughts, I was compelled to research and understand why I believe the way I believe in a God. As you get older, you understand you do not have too many days or years left to get it correct. I feel the pressure to try and get so much done now in my personal life because of the few years that I have remaining. The time just seems to go by so fast now. I also wanted to understand the other side of not believing in God and why there is so much doubt and disdain towards God.
My life is probably not much different than most fathers out there. We do our best to get through life and we try to understand and be sure of what it is all about. We want to be a great spouse to our wife and a great example for children.
I work about fifty hours a week, which includes travel time every month in and out of Virginia and West Virginia. So my time is very valuable and I need to use it wisely to accomplish my personal and spiritual goals.
We want to spend more time with all of our grandchildren. Too often, grandparents are easily forgotten while they are alive. When we are gone, what little memory our grandchildren have of us may quickly fade away. So we want to see them all the more while we can.
Most importantly, for my beautiful wife Pam and me, our understanding of the reality of death and being prepared for that journey that lies ahead for us is paramount.
I have been a Catholic Christian all my life. I have always had a respect for God and His Son Jesus. However, it was in my middle years that I became more knowledgeable of the relationship of God in Jesus.
I am the second oldest of twelve children. My parents, Henry and
