The Word of God came into the world. By that word we can not only know God but begin a Father - Child relationship that will continue into forever. The word reveals why we are here, what God is doing in our lives and where we are going. Without the word we would not, and could not know God and his wonderful plan for all who believe in his word. We all have freedom to believe in what we regard as truth. However when it comes to the big questions in life such as, why am I here; is there a greater purpose in life; is there life after death; then there is only one truth and that is found in the word from God. A third of my life was dedicated to me and my loved ones, I didn't give much thought to God. Only through his word was I awakened to the truth that there is a reason for life here on earth. I was awakened to the truth about the purpose of my life. I found the truth about the big question, is there life after death. We all need a start, we all need some couching into the scriptures. I was given tha early start and I am overjoyed with the journey that followed. Our lives started with the word, it continues because of the word and the word brings knowledge and love into our lives.

Saved by the Word - Brian William Warburton

    SAVED BY THE WORD!

    Foreword.

You may have heard the parable sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. Sticks and stones are the weapons your enemy will attack you with, but they are not his most powerful weapon! We know that there are much more powerful weapons than sticks and stones. Today the world has enough nuclear weapons to destroy the planet. The world arsenal of nuclear warheads is approximately 13,000. Yet there is another weapon that also has the capability to destroy lives. This weapon is not a nuclear weapon but the spoken word. Words can build up and strengthen people, they can also break people. There is a storm brewing and we can now see the black clouds building up on the horizon. According to scripture there will be a worldwide attempt to prevent the Gospel message reaching the people of the world. So it is important to seek truth and hold fast to it. Make sure that you have a hard copy of the Bible in your home.

I hope that the information in this book will help believers to stay focused. I hope in this book Agnostics will find the truth, and Atheists will question their disbelief of God. All scriptures used are English Revised Version quotes unless otherwise noted.

    CHAPTER ONE.

    WORDS THAT HURT!

Words are powerful, words can encourage and comfort. By our words we can express love and we can impart knowledge. Words can be used for good and words can be used for evil. As you will have gathered from the title the book is about the power of words. I was about six or seven years old when I first heard the idiom sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me. After being called hurtful names by children at school, I came running home for reassurance that I really wasn’t  a big bum scaredy-cat. Mother didn’t give me a hug which is what I wanted, she said sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me. Mother said remember that whenever anyone call you names. Unfortunately the idiom is incorrect, reciting those words don’t ease the hurt feelings. The earliest known use of the proverb, states words not names. For example sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me was recorded in a publication in 1862. The idiom is useless in comforting hurt feelings. Later we will study the most powerful word known to man and angels. Although there are many reasons for man to go to war, the words following an incident may calm or incite escalation of tensions. Here is just one example.

An  argument over a slaughtered Pig almost leads to a full-scale conflict between the United States and Great Britain. The trouble began in 1859 on San Juan Island, an Island northwest Washington State. Before the Pig became bacon, the island was home to American settlers and British employees of the Hudson’s Bay Company, and both parties had laid claim to its fertile soil. The incident ignited a conflict which became known as the Pig War. On June 15, 1859, when an American farmer named Lyman Cutlar gunned down a British-owned Porky after he discovered the animal rooting through his potato patch. This is where we need to be careful with our words because the ensuing argument over the dead pig increased tensions between the two groups of settlers, and Cutlar was eventually threatened with arrest. Because angry words were exchanged and no words of negotiation were uttered, the incident blew out of proportion. The American inhabitants were afraid that the British troops would come and arrest Cutlar and maybe some of them so they armed themselves.

The report of the dead pig and the trouble that followed was sent to the military. After receiving the report the United States Army dispatched Captain George Pickett to San Juan with a small complement of troops. Captain Pickett, was upset that the Pig shooter was threatened with arrest so he declared the whole island United States property. Soon enough the British responded by sending a fleet of heavily armed naval vessels to the coastline. An absurd standoff ensued, and the situation remained on a knife-edge for several agonizing weeks. The two nations would finally negotiate a deal allowing for joint military occupation of San Juan Island in October 1859, ending the Pig War as a bloodless stalemate—save for one unfortunate Pig.

Thankfully no human was shot but we can recognize how words can escalate tension. People with evil intent can use deceptive words for their own gain. King David often commented in the Psalms about lying lips.

Psalm 28:3 Do not drag me off with the wicked, with the workers of evil, who speak peace with their neighbors while evil is in their hearts.

I’m sure we’ve all met people who tell porkies (lies) for their own reasons. I know there are some who like to big-shot themselves. Take the man on the train speaking loudly into his mobile phone so that everyone on the train can
