CHAPTER 1
What is Success?
––––––––
Simple questions are often the ones with an ambiguous definition. One such question is - what is success? One of Webster dictionary's definitions of success is favourable or desired outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, Favor or eminence.
Going by this definition, a successful man is one who lives in a mansion and calls it home, is wealthy enough to jet-set around the globe and drives a beast mobile. Can success be defined truly through material accomplishments? Will meeting the bar set by such material ownership bestow happiness? Success is as much of an abstract feeling as it is a metric to gauge professional and personal accomplishments.
––––––––
Success from the successful
––––––––
We are a sum of what we learn and imbibe over our lifetime. Success for each is personal and is defined by individual ambitions and yearnings. Success inspires us to put forth our best versions. A misused definition of success is weighing with the competition. John Wooden, the Wizard of Westwood and the legendary coach of UCLA defined success as, peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction knowing that you did the best that you could.
From his team, he expected that they never tried to be someone else. If we try and emulate another, the result is their version of success, not yours.
You are successful if you persevere. Patience is a virtue fuelled by hope that change will happen. There is no progress without change and faith is the ground that keeps us from falling off our
course. Success is as simple as being true to one’s desires and aspirations and devoting time, resources and energy into manifesting these into reality. At the same time, success is not limited to reaching the end game that we planned. When we do the best, we can, the results are what they ought to be and not what we wanted them to be. Success is this, waking up every day and chasing a dream that you dreamt off while you were asleep.
––––––––
Success is a flower with many petals of definitions
––––––––
John Wooden has a definition of success which embodies working hard and being persistent. Warren Buffet, a legendary investor, defines success as, I measure success by how many people love me.
Success is also making an impact on the society, a definition presented by Microsoft cofounder Bill Gates. Co-founder of Paul Mitchel hair products, DeJoria has an individualistic take on definition success, Success isn't how much money you have. Success is not what your position is. Success is how well you do what you do when nobody else is looking.
––––––––
What is success for you? It is an open-ended question which can be as simple as completing a task which you set out to do or being a smile on a stranger's face. Your success is not defined by other's perception of success, they are your own!

How to be successful in your personal and professional life?
––––––––
Briefly, professional and personal success is defined by the spheres in which each is set. Both are not mutually exclusive nor are they inclusive. Personal success is the culmination of desires, aspirations, physical and emotional health. Professional success radiates from the drive to meet
targets set at work. If you want to achieve personal and professional success without letting go of either, here are a few words of wisdom.
––––––––
Achieving personal and professional success is simple as it is strenuous
––––––––
A unified goal: How to make two independent spheres intersect? Simple - set a common goal. When the result of professional and personal success is defined the same, an intersection is invariable. Personal success is not riding the wave of family accomplishments, it is the goals one sets and the resolve to put in the best effort to achieve the same.
––––––––
The path to success
––––––––
The road to success is simple and by being so, it is mostly ignored. For how can something life- altering be defined in words which are easily understood? But it is how it is and the road remains unchanged:
Success is the sum of small consistent contributions, work towards the goal every day
––––––––
Definition of personal and professional success is not through example. Drawing inspiration is often confused with mimicking actions. The bare truth is that we are different with individualistic capabilities. The toil for betterment must be a personal endeavour than a competition.
Clarity is the starting point. When there is no clarity of thought, you will fail to recognize the journey’s end point.
––––––––
Knowing when to stop is as important as the drive to pursue. The good must never be channelized to chase the bad. Watch out for red flags and pause to reconsider.
––––––––
Productivity is the magic formula of ‘getting things done’

Time is the most important gift you can present the one you love and the work that you wish to succeed at

Professionally, success is achieved through the right mix of confidence, perusal and surrender. Perusal begins when
