1. Introduction
How many things there are that I don't need.
- Socrates
It all starts with the first apartment. Maybe you have parents who finance all the furniture and give you every little thing. But for most, it's a relatively empty apartment. You only have what you need. And you think to yourself that you need more things to settle in, to really feel at home. A few years later and every move is a pain. Too many boxes full of things you don't really need. But the basement has to be used. Laziness and sentimentality make for cluttered closets, attics and basements.
Your finances are meager or you dream of vacations for which you would have to save. Sometimes you worry about retirement. You just can't get enough these days.
Whatever reason you have. You are here.
Here on earth, alive and ready to try a new perspective.
Minimalism is a lifestyle. It's more than just throwing out the unnecessary Christmas decorations. It's not complicated. But like everything in life, it has rough edges. Especially when the industry works against it. Who does not know it? You don't feel so good, so you buy yourself something nice. After all, you have to treat yourself to something.
Does buying this thing help? In the end it's a dust collector and the money gone. Why not start with downsizing
by deliberately throwing out unnecessary ballast and thereby creating more space
, also internally?!
As Mel Robbins points out in her Ted talk, the odds of you being born are 1 in 400,000,000,000. You are special. You've probably heard that before and didn't believe it. So look at the number again. You are here to live, love, give and take. You can make your dreams come true and enjoy every second. And yet you let yourself be dragged down by the boundaries and ideas of other people. From your fears And possessions.
For whom enough is too little, nothing is enough.
- Epicurus
You are greedy for more. But no money in the world, no object can satisfy this greed. why are you greedy The people who lack self-love, self-confidence and self-respect compensate through toxic relationships and consumption. They buy themselves lucky and cling to any person who shows the tiniest bit of empathy. At the end of the day, they don't know who they are and what they really want out of life.
I want a million euros.
I want a partner.
I want a Tesla.
Translated, it says: I want to be happy.
But it's not like that. You're probably one of those people too. You settle for things and relationships because you don't think you can be happy. And even if you are. You are any realistic strategy on how to become one? I can't give you the answers to all your questions.
