Chapter 1 - Sophia Murphy
I’ve been feeling much better lately. It’s the first time in a long while that I’ve felt good. After going through so many tough and regretful events recently, it feels great to be starting anew. Everything seems to be falling into place, and I haven’t felt this good in a long time.
For once, I woke up feeling rested after my alarm went off, rather than feeling sick to my stomach. My arm was numb from sleeping on it heavily, but at least I wasn’t experiencing the sharp pains in my abdomen that I used to get due to my poor diet. It’s a nice change.
I got out of bed instead of staying there and feeling lazy. Just a few months ago, I used to be afraid to move my legs because I knew it would lead me towards food. Now I drink water instead of coffee, and I exercise instead of watching TV. I engage in mindful activities instead of zoning out, and I write to-do lists so I can have a plan for the day. I remind myself to ask for help instead of trying to do everything on my own, and I give myself breaks instead of pushing myself too hard. This way, I can acknowledge my feelings instead of ignoring them.
My concentration has improved, and I can read and study without my eyes blurring. I’m better at talking to people now without feeling the need to snap at them or direct my unwarranted anger towards them. Before my treatment, I always tried to push through, but the more I tried, the worse I felt. Now I have the patience to listen instead of waiting for a conversation to end so that I could slip away. My throat doesn’t hurt anymore, and the slightest movement of my lips doesn’t drain all of my energy. For the first time in months, I feel like myself again. The chronic headaches and fatigue that had been my constant companions for so long are gone, and in their place is a new sense of energy and vitality. This is an enormous relief for me, and it feels like someone has lifted a weight off my shoulders.
