I wondered if you ever loved us

Those attempts on your life

The constant guilt you placed on me because I saved your life

Mom, those pills won’t save you from us

He walked out because he had enough

Going to the cabinet and grabbing what kept you an addict didn’t help but create another habit

A pattern

The cloud you held above our heads with every threat to do it again

Harkened back when your daughters felt this immense dread

Begging me to give mouth-to-mouth

CPR wasn’t in my repertoire

5th grade was already hard

I begged God

I slapped you

I didn’t know what to do

Dad did drugs too

He kicked it, but why couldn’t you?

The trauma you put us through

Obligations a child shouldn’t attend to
