ABOUT THE AUTHOR
PROLOGUE
T his book is about God’s love, mercy, power, and faithfulness. It is my wish that you will find hope, encouragement, and comfort in my testimony. I pray that after reading this book, you will be willing to trust God for everything. Hopefully, you will come to the conclusion that trusting Him is the wisest thing to do, the safest road to take, and always your best option.
I cried to you for help, O Lord my God, and you healed me; you kept me from the grave. I was on my way to the depths below, but you restored my life. Sing praise to the Lord, all his faithful people! Remember what the Holy One has done and give him thanks! His anger lasts only a moment, his goodness for a lifetime. Tears may flow in the night, but joy comes in the morning. You have changed my sadness into a joyful dance; you have taken away my sorrow and surrounded me with joy. So I will not be silent; I will sing praise to you. Lord, you are my God; I will give you thanks forever.

CHAPTER 1
HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Y ou MUST call Father Ralph tonight at 7 p.m.!
This was the voicemail message on our home phone from Sister Mary, a nun friend of ours, who had been ministering to us and helping pray for Jaymie’s healing. Her voice had this uncontainable excitement.
Jaymie is our youngest daughter, who at the age of five, was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder that shut down her bone marrow. She became dependent on blood transfusions to keep her alive. This life-changing event came without any warning. There was no time to prepare us for what was about to come.
We came to know Sister Mary through her niece, who lived in our neighborhood. She is a nun from Corpus Christi, Texas, whom we had met a few times when she came to visit her niece in Little Rock, Arkansas. There was an instant bond between us the first time we met. Before long, we became like family to each other.
One day, Sister Mary met this healing priest
from Rockport, Texas, named Father Ralph Jones. He is well-known for having helped bring healing to many sick people through his prayers. Sister Mary had been tirelessly praying for Jaymie’s healing, and her unexpected meeting with Father Ralph must have been an answer to her prayers. She talked to him about Jaymie’s condition, and he graciously offered to help pray for her. Since we were not able to go to his chapel in Rockport, he said he would pray over Jaymie via the telephone. Sister Mary reminded me repeatedly on her voicemail message that day, that I must call Father Ralph at 7 p.m.
Indeed, that was the most important phone call I had made in my life. One that would change my life forever.
CHAPTER 2
THE ANOINTING
T here was a time when Jaymie required platelet transfusion every two to three days. Whenever her platelet count dropped below 20,000, she would bleed spontaneously, usually from her nose. It could certainly be much worse than that. But I knew that Jaymie was special in God’s eyes, and somehow, I believed that things would be alright.
One Saturday afternoon, Jaymie’s nose started bleeding and would not stop. It had been two days since her last platelet transfusion. We knew that her platelet count must have dropped, and she would need to be transfused quickly. We rushed her to the emergency room, with our two other children in tow.
We waited patiently for Jaymie to get through her platelet transfusion. The kids kept themselves entertained by watching television, while my wife and I prayed, encouraged each other, and kept our minds focused on only positive thoughts. In order to survive this stressful situation, we had to stay disciplined and not allow panic and despair to take root in our minds.
We were in the emergency room for a long time. While I sat mindlessly watching the minutes pass, I suddenly realized that it was 7 p.m., and I MUST call Father Ralph.
He picked up the phone right away. For some reason, I felt relieved. I introduced myself and told him that Sister Mary had asked me to call. We exchanged pleasantries, and he proceeded to ask about Jaymie. I told him that we were in the emergency room because Jaymie had bled and needed a platelet transfusion. His voice was kind and sincere. I felt comforted. I felt that he understood our pain. I felt that he truly cared. I felt like I was somehow talking to God.
He quoted me many scripture verses as he tried to comfort me and give me courage. Coincidentally, they were the exact verses that God placed in my heart when I prayed for comfort, strength, and direction. Furthermore, he also told me that I would be writing a book, not for financial gain, but purely for the glory of God. It felt surreal. He left me in a state of awe and amazement for I had just told my wife about that exact plan just a few hours prior. How can this man whom I have never met know about my private conversations with God and my wife? I felt like I had just talked to God, but this time, I heard an audible voice.
Father Ralph told me that God was using Jaymie’s illness to prepare me to heal the sick. He had never asked me what I do for a living. I stretched out my right hand as he had instructed. He asked me to make the sign of the cross on my right hand using my left, as he prayed and anointed
me to heal the sick in God’s name. He then asked me to put my right hand on Jaymie’s head as he said a prayer for her healing. What followed was a supernatural experience. There was a warmth that extended from my right shoulder down to my right hand. My heart was burning. I felt like something special was happening. After all this, I had to sit down as I felt drained.
It was not clear to me whether Father Ralph knew that I am a doctor when he said that God was preparing me to heal the sick. So, I told him, Father, I am a doctor.
To which he said, Is that so?
It was then that I understood that the healing God was preparing me to do was the kind that is beyond giving medicines or cutting out tumors.
When all this sunk in, I felt nervous, insecure, and confused. I asked God, Why me?
What am I supposed to do?
I argued with God that I could not do this, that I had no training or experience in it, and that I was simply, not the right choice. God may be perfect and all-knowing, but not this time. I became very anxious until I realized, well, there was nothing I needed to do about this anointing thing at this time, anyway. So, I decided to just relax for the time being. Besides, I had a lot on my plate caring for Jaymie.
A few weeks later, during one of Jaymie’s frequent re-hospitalizations, I found myself in the family room of the Hematology and Oncology ward trying to unwind from a stressful and exhausting day. Jaymie had just been admitted to the room after more than five hours of waiting in the Emergency department. It was 2 a.m. and I was flipping through television channels, hoping to watch a replay of the 2012 London Olympics. What I did not expect to see at that time was my favorite television preacher, Joel Osteen. His face occupied the entire television screen, and with his forefinger pointing at me,
