Chapter 1. Definition of emotional intelligence
Emotional intelligence , also abbreviated as EQ, is defined as the capacity to recognize and make sense of one's own feelings as well as those of other people, as well as the ability to allow this awareness to direct one's thinking and actions (emotional quotient). EQ is an abbreviation that may be used to refer to emotional intelligence (emotional quotient). It needs the ability to keep one's own feelings under control, communicate effectively with other people, comprehend the emotions of other individuals, form and maintain healthy partnerships, and cultivate and sustain healthy relationships.
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the amount of attention that has been spent on the concept of emotional intelligence, which is still in its infancy. In the past, the intelligence quotient, sometimes known as IQ, was the method of choice for evaluating the level of intellect possessed by a person. By the use of this strategy, a focus was placed on cognitive abilities such as the capacity to think critically and solve issues.
ON THE OTHER HAND, during the past few years, researchers have begun to pay more and more attention to the significance of emotional intelligence in not just our personal lives but also in our professional lives. There is no such thing as a fixed quality known as emotional intelligence that a person either possesses or does not possess depending on whether or not they were born with it. Instead, it is something that can be developed and improved over the course of time by the application of conscious effort and consistent practice. People who have a high emotional intelligence are typically better able to handle social situations, deal with stress and conflict, and develop meaningful connections with others who are in their immediate environment. Emotional intelligence is a multifaceted trait that can be broken down into its component pieces, the most essential of which are self-awareness, the ability to self-regulate, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
There is a widespread but mistaken belief that a person's level of emotional intelligence is fixed at the moment of birth. In addition, research has demonstrated that one's emotional intelligence can be strengthened with practice and the investment of time. This is because emotional intelligence (EQ) is not just a single characteristic, but rather a collection of skills that may be improved over the course of one's life.
Those who have a high emotional intelligence score have a greater chance of being successful in a range of interpersonal circumstances. Emotional intelligence is measured by a scale. This is owing to the fact that they are capable of both self-knowledge and self-control,
