    Reader Advisory

This is a work of erotic science fiction, and a very rude one at that. Intended exclusively for an adult audience, it graphically depicts scenes of a highly sexual nature and situations of peril/horror.

Shuttle Silverstone, en route to Luna, Sol System

    Luna.

Delicate shining badge pinned upon the inky night.

    Luna.

Nakedly exposed beneath the harsh glare of the Sun, silvery-white and frigid.

    Luna.

    Too bloody far away.

From Silverstone’s vantage point, with the Sun roaring just behind her, Luna was blindingly full, while Terra was a misty-blue smear beyond, barely visible against the glare of its smaller satellite.

On the viewscreen of the quarantine cell, at full magnification, Luna looked close enough to reach out and touch, but in fact it was still more than a hundred million kilometres away. A mere hop in stellar terms, but to Nicole Berry it may as well have been infinity.

    Luna.

Talisman of freedom. Frustratingly impossible destination.

    Overdue escape route.

As Ivy would once have put it, in her mock London accent, everything was buggered proper sideways, squire.

    Nicole floated, helpless.

For four years she had been a participant in the Xenoplantation Programme. For four years she’d let them match her with all manner of different alien creatures, and for four years she’d let those creatures use her body in all manner of different ways. One very specific way, as a matter of fact. Safe to say, in those four years Nicole had done some shit. She’d seen some shit.

She’d been there when Ivy had died.

Ejected from the station, along with the creature that had trapped her, cocooned in an escape capsule, a supposedly safe refuge that had turned out to be anything but, fired into the same sun that stood at Nicole’s back now, a sun which held her trapped in its grasp as surely as that creature had trapped Ivy.

The sorry little accident that had ended Ivy’s life had effectively been the end for Nicole’s participation in the Programme too. Oh, there’d been the putting on of brave faces, and the reorganisations, and the promises of better, and safer, but for Nicole none of that mattered. Everything after Ivy was just a distraction from the plain fact that it was long past time to get out.

Dexter hadn’t taken her seriously at first.

He’d refused to believe his star participant would simply up and leave him, right when he needed her most. He’d thought she was just angling for more money, pressing her advantage in a seller’s market now most of her compatriots were gone. He’d assumed that was her angle because it was exactly what he would have done in her place.

    Take advantage.

He couldn’t understand that she just wanted out.

So he’d offered her more money.

She’d told him she didn’t want more money.

He’d asked her to name her price.

She’d told him she wasn’t for sale any more.

He’d told her she wasn’t thinking clearly, had suggested she take a few days to think about her options.

She’d asked when the next shuttle was due to dock.

When finally it got through to him she was serious, and wasn’t going to drop the subject, that was when he started the cajoling, the pleas not to leave him in the lurch, the appeals to human decency and professionalism. But the passage of time and the pleas only hardened her resolve. The risk wasn’t theoretical any more. She’d lost friends. Nicole wanted out, and she said so, plainly and forcefully.

That had led to the barely-veiled threats. Contract terms. Tortious anomalies. Withholding of proceeds.

    Damages.

Nicole told him he could take it up with her lawyer. Once she was back on Luna.

So it seemed they were at an impasse.

But then Dexter had his big idea.

Something that might give both of them what they wanted.

A promotional tour. A valedictory spin around the solar system, from the biggest cities on Terra to the smallest outpost on Nereid. Sponsoring influencers, fronting virt-squirts and being just so gosh-darn enthusiastic about how simply wonderful it was to take part in the Xenoplantation Programme.

A tour to recruit new participants.

Fly the flag, said Dexter, sign him up some new participants, and then he could spare her.

In the end Nicole had agreed.

She wasn’t naïve enough to believe Dexter would willingly hold up his end of the deal, of course. The tour itinerary ended back at INF3, the deep-space research facility where Dexter oversaw the Xenoplantation Programme, and once she was back there she’d be back where she started, both literally and figuratively. There’d be nothing to stop Dexter simply deciding she hadn’t done enough to earn
