Goals have made a tremendous difference in my life. They have allowed me to achieve success, and accomplish what I had previously only dreamed of, or wished for. In order to attain some of my goals also meant accepting that I needed to learn and develop new skills.

My goals kept me on track, and sometimes, they gave me hope. They allowed me to see not where I was today, but where I could be in the future. Many times in my life, I found that if my focus had been only on where I was that day, it would have been extremely depressing.

Over the years, I have read many books on goal setting; I have implemented bits and pieces of each of these books in my life. Some of these books went on and on. But, I wanted concise information on how to do it and why you should do it a certain way.

I can honestly say that setting goals has changed my life. I have accomplished things in my life that I previously only dreamed about. Goals work. Many times I have set goals that seemed overwhelming, but once I broke them down into clear, actionable steps, I could see that they were possible. And like the old saying, you can only move a mountain one rock at a time and that is how I looked at my goals. I could achieve what at one time seemed overwhelming.

I have written this eBook not only to inform but to challenge your perceptions on developing clear personal and professional goals. What I share with you are my own experiences, my personal results from setting personal and professional goals, and the research that I have conducted.

I went from a high school secretarial graduate to a senior manager of a major international corporation. My employment advancement, however, was not without many hurdles that I had to overcome. With many challenges facing me, at different times in my life, I coped and was inspired by reading biographies of people who faced similar challenges, and by reading as many motivational and inspiring books as I could find. I not only read these books but implemented the knowledge that I found in these books in my daily life, both personal and professional. In 1998, I wrote my first book, "Wings of Wisdom: Your Daily Guide To Benefit From Change, Profit From Failure, and Design Your Own Destiny". I could accomplish writing this book even though I had a demanding full-time job and two children at home. Part of my success in writing my first book was because I used the goal-setting strategies that I later wrote about in "Wings for Goals: How To Use Three Easy Steps To Change Your Life Forever!". Since then, I have written additional ebooks, "Wings for Work: Learn How To Develop and Use The Three Key Qualities That Successful People Have Mastered", which focuses on issues in the workplace and how to develop and use three key qualities that helped me move forward in my professional life. My most recent ebook, “Millionaire’s Key Habits for Success: Adopt Their Attitudes To Create The Life You Want”, focuses on the key habits of some of the world-wide known millionaires that helped them achieve greatness. All of these nine characteristics, however, are secondary to the one key attribute that each millionaire possessed. And so can you. I also devote a portion of my time to developing an inspirational and motivational website, www.stresslesscountry.com.   Why do I do what I do?  Simply put, one of my primary goals in life is to help others build a more rewarding and successful life. I do this by sharing what I have learned and experienced throughout the years, and by challenging people's thinking to be more and have more. I currently live in New Brunswick, Canada, with my husband and best friend, Byron.

    Introduction

    To some people, a book on goal setting would be boring or irrelevant. What these types of people don't understand, however, is that trying to live their lives successfully without setting goals is like a boat without a rudder!

    After I wrote my first book, "Wings of Wisdom: Your Daily Guide To Benefit From Change, Profit From Failure, and Design Your Own Destiny, I had many people ask me how I did it. I would reply, I set a goal. What do you mean?," they would ask. I responded by giving them a step-by-step description of how I did it.

    I retold this explanation over and over, and one day I thought it would be a good idea to write a book about it. Obviously, there was a need. And looking at people who were discouraged but didn't seem to know what direction to go gave me the inspiration. If I could teach one person, make a positive difference in their life, then my life goal of helping others to potentially advance their lives would be one step closer.

    Setting goals, along with a detailed action plan, has changed my life from one cast in frustration to one of purpose. The process of goal setting has helped me to focus not on what someone else thought I should do or be, but on what I wanted to accomplish with my life. Goal setting, and its proper application, can do the same for you.
