Introduction
T
his book was written with a heart to help small/start-up churches or existing churches that have been struggling (for whatever reasons) to get their kids’ ministry off the ground.
When I felt the Lord leading me to head up kids’ ministry in my local Vineyard church, my first thought was, Get behind me Satan!
. I had no experience whatsoever in teaching children. Although I had been in youth ministry for over 15 years, I had limited exposure to children under the age of 13. So, naturally the thought of leading this ministry was terrifying!
However, I did have one thing going for me: I was a young mother of a 1-year old and 2-year-old with a deep conviction that God wanted my children to LOVE coming to church as much as I did, and a desire for them to learn to fall radically in love with Jesus in the process! I wanted their childhood experience of church to be good and positive, understanding that our first impressions are often our lasting ones!
Making church fun and exciting for my kids was my quest, and I was determined to take as many with me on this venture as possible!
When I got involved, the kids’ ministry was small, had minimal resources/facilities and had been struggling to attract volunteers. After 5 years of leading this ministry it has grown and become one of the healthiest and most vibrant ministries in the life of our church. It’s a source of attracting new members/families to the church and has a volunteer base involving over 25% of our church members.
It’s been a privilege and honor to partner with the Holy Spirit as HE and some great (more experienced) friends have taught me lessons on how to make this ministry successful and fruitful. It’s actually much easier (and cheaper) than you think! In this e-booklet I have put together a summary of the steps that helped us get this ministry up and running. It’s essentially the resource I wish I’d had when I started out!
I hope it blesses and helps you!
