Is It Worth It?

About this ebook
There are many times in life when we must ask ourselves, is it worth it? This book is designed to be a guide for personal introspection about eating and life in general. It is written to encourage and inspire the reader toward self-discovery. It's never easy to look in the mirror and admit the obvious to ourselves, but with God all things are possible, and victory is ours to be claimed. Hope is the springboard to overcome and work through the barriers to success, and daily, small, consistent steps are essential in creating healthier habits. The recipes in this book are designed as a starting point to encourage experimentation, substitution, and balance. A personal willingness is the key that opens doors to a new and brighter future. My prayer is that this book will help others embrace the challenging questions that can change the trajectory of their lives.

This is an important question we should all consider asking ourselves regarding many things in life. With respect to our health, wellness, and state of mind, this is a question we must be intentional about pausing to ponder. Your health is your responsibility and, to a large degree, is completely within reach, both literally and figuratively. We each choose what is most important in life. Several years ago, when diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), I began asking myself this question. It was a daily dice roll of experimentation with what I could tolerate and what would make me ill. Many people will suffer through the constant bathroom visits, just to indulge. Some don’t want limits placed on them, so they do what they want and go forward with the attitude of Why does it matter?
which seems an awful lot like Is it worth it?
I believe it does matter, and our health is worth it. Our bodies are temporary vessels on loan to us for a short while, and we should honor them as unto Christ.
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.
(1 Corinthians 6:19–20)
Christ paid the ultimate price in giving His life in place of ours. We were created by Him, for Him, and should strive to live according to our calling.
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.
(Ephesians 4:1–3)
We cannot control the challenges, trials, or sufferings that we are guaranteed to encounter, but we can control our response to them. We can choose our attitude, which so often determines our outcome. The Why bother?
