About this ebook

This is a book of poems about life and experiences I had. Some are funny, some are serious, but all are thought-provoking.

I wish to thank Ambur Byler for typing my poems.

Heart of the Ozarks - Jackie Cargill

    Easter

It’s a time for new beginnings, so what about you?

Don’t you think it’s time for you something to do?

Priorities are a must in this day and time,

Reading your bible and praying doesn’t cost a dime,

What’s most important in your life?

Is it things that only cause strife?

More money, more things, entertainment galore,

    They take up your time,

The more you won’t have true joy or happiness here,

You’ll always have an amount of fear,

The what ifs will get you, no doubt,

What if there’s not enough money, clothes, food, cars, or a home is what life is about?

    Should I lie alone?

Was I put on this earth to roam?

Be good steward of your time and start today,

A new beginning in every way,

    Being a Mom

Being a mom is the best job you’ll ever love,

But you’ll need strength and guidance from above,

    For eighteen to twenty years,

    You’ll have laughter and tears,

    Learning experience, triumphs, and trials,

The learning experience goes on for miles,

A mother has forgiveness and love,

Motherhood fits a lot of women like a glove,

Devoted to their children, they live just for them, keeping healthy and going to the gym,

Teaching them a variety of things from baby steps to wedding rings,

You really don’t know how to appreciate your mom until the time for you has come,

The really good mom loves in all seasons,

It comes easy. She doesn’t need a reason,

I think motherhood is a gift from God,

Big responsibility watch the path you trod,

    Caregiver

    Don’t complain about a caregiver,

Until you walked in their shoes,

Don’t always share your don’ts and dos,

Caregiver’s job is the hardest on earth,

Twenty-four hours a day. If you had to pay them, you might see their worth,

No time to brush your teeth, comb your hair, or take a bath,

Have you even been on this path?

Not only is there constant work,

Watching them die one day at a time,

Nothing you can do. You feel like a jerk,

The love of your life will soon be gone,

All you hear is what you did wrong,

    A caregiver has enough grit,

When they drop off to sleep,

Didn’t hear them at first you feel like a creep,

One thing about it God knows,

    You’ve done you’re best,

Quit worrying about it and give it a rest,

    In a perfect world,

Your family and friends would thank you, give you a big hug,

Pray to God for understanding, and your heart He will tug,

    Uncertain

I try to prepare for what lays ahead,

With prayer and thanksgiving and not dread,

I thank you, Lord, for the years we’ve had,

The first twenty-seven were good and not bad,

The last twenty-six has broken my heart,

Sometimes there’s a wedge of silence pulling us apart,

I’m thankful for the good times,

    I don’t know what’s ahead,

He may be confined to bed,

Lord, I know you’ll be here in every single hour,

When I need it, you’ll give me the power,

    Thank You

I tried to buy a card today,

But they didn’t say what I wanted to say,

I come home and wrote this. Thank you,

I wanted you to feel good too,

My life has been sorrows for twenty-six years,

    Lots of sadness and tears,

    You made my day,

    In every way,

I was so happy. My heart sang with joy,

This was a gorgeous painting, not just a toy,

I’ll always remember that special day,

I thank you from the bottom of my heart in every way,

    Mom

The work of a mom is never done,

From working housework, washing laundry by the ton,

Being a mom is the best job you’ll ever have with little pay,

No better feeling than doing this every day,

When you see this accomplishment on how they’ve grown close to the Lord,

Job well done. There are no words,

Nothing or nobody can take the place of a mom,

When they have a broken heart, you keep them calm,

Be there for them in every way,

Treasure every day. They grow up so fast,

    All their childhood is past,

    When they’re grown and gone,

    Don’t be discouraged,

It won’t be long until grandchildren come along,

    Sitters

As she went out the door,

She said, I’m not coming anymore,

She’d been our sitter over fifteen years,

It brought us both to tears,

What do I do? Where can I turn?

Lord, I need part time help to take it serious and me not spurn,

I told a teller in the bank my plight,

She pointed to the young lady in the next window,

    She might be right,

In a few days, we tried her out,

I think she’ll be perfect, no doubt,

A young single mom with a lot on her plate,

She’d come past time. This would be great,

Always early for work with a smile,

    She didn’t let it get
