About this ebook

I picked this title because I have been writing poetry since I was thirteen years old, and I figured it takes two minutes for someone to read the poem and three minutes to grasp the meaning of the poems and ponder its meaning. That is why my title is Have You Got Five Minutes. As we know, a lot can happen in five minutes. You can fall in love. You can fall down the stairs. You can fall off your rocker, or you can fall into insanity. But if you really think about it, almost anything in life can happen in just five minutes. So I hope you take five minutes to enjoy one or all of my poetry. I hope that it moves you in a way and defines you both spiritually and emotionally blessed. As I have been writing poetry for so long, sometimes my words slip away from me. Sometimes, my pen is quicker than my brain, and I go off on my tangents. I hope everyone enjoys reading this book as much as I have enjoyed writing it.

Have You Got Five Minutes? - Opal Belieu

    Lonnie

Lonnie, you are my husband, my lover, and my best friend. I promise to love you forever and always until the end.

I promise to love you forever, in sickness and in health. I promise to stand by your side in poverty and in wealth. I promise to always be there whenever you fall because you are my true love after all. I give to you all my support and love because you are my celestial gift from the heavens above.

I will stand to your left and will stand to your right. I will do almost anything you want but I will not fight.

Mr. B, I love you with all that I am and all that I have and with all that I will ever be. I want to thank you for your patience and love and support that you have given me. And now, it is time for you to be recognized for all the good things that you do, so I want to take this moment to tell you that I am so very proud of you, and I love you, and I cherish you, honestly I do.

    Happy Anniversary, Mr. B.

    I love you.

Things will get better for us, someday you’ll see mommy will make them better for you, Joey, and me.

Cheer up, my love, and don’t you cry, things will get easier as time goes by.

I know I’m not rich, but I give you all that I am able, even if that is only food to set upon the table.

I wish I could afford to give you the moon and stars and buy you fancy clothes and buy you brand new cars.

But to you, I give all a mother’s love, it holds no dollar value, but it is a gift from above.

I hope you cherish it, as much as I cherish you, you are my bright shining star, so you know now what to do.

There were once a sunny days when you would ask me to come out and play, I’d say a little later, son, there’s so much work to be done.

My hands were busy through the day, I didn’t have much time to play; the little games you asked me to, I didn’t have much time for you.

I’d wash your clothes, sew, and cook but when you’d bring your picture book and ask me please to share your fun, I’d say a little later, son.

The picture books are put away, there aren’t any games to play. No good night kiss, no laughter to hear for that all belongs to yester year.

My hands once busy, now lie still. The days are long and hard to fill. I wish I might go back and do the little things you asked me to.

So come over here, son, and give Mama a hug for these memories at my heart they do tug, but you better hurry though because Mama’s fading fast, and we just don’t know how long she’ll last.

Hug me tight, let me sit on your lap, remember when we would play peek-a-boo, and you would clap, clap, clap.

Oh, my son, you should tell me good night. Mama’s so tired; she must look a fright. Remember it is never goodbye. It is always good night because Mama’s always watching over you, so you keep on holding tight.

My hands once busy, now lie still. The days are long and hard to fill. I wish I might go back and do the little things you asked me to.
