About this ebook

At times we all may get a little frustrated with our minds and how we think. Sometimes you may feel your thoughts are controlling you instead of you being in control of your thoughts. This book can help you to see how you can be more empowered to take control of your mind and thinking. It helps you to understand that if you can learn to drive and control a car, then you can use those same skills to be in more control of your mind and your life. In my own unconventional way I want you to know that every time you get behind the wheel of your car that you are in control. The same way that you and controlling that car, you can do the same by your controlling your mind instead of letting it go like a rollercoaster Let's face it, we are all on a journey and it depends on what transportation you use and the roads you take that will determine the adventures that you experience along the way. Since life is full of ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns, it's important that we take time to learn how to best navigate it. My goal is to give you a few life hacks that may very well show you some better ways to help navigate and control your mind through this journey of life like you would a car, instead of letting it go like a rollercoaster.

    Introduction

How to Control Your Mind Like a Car Instead of a Rollercoaster deals with questions that we all ask ourselves at one time or another: Why do I think the way that I think, and why do I do some of the things that I do? When it comes to understanding more about ourselves, we have to first look at our mind because everything we do starts in our mind. In my own unconventional way, I have used a car and rollercoaster to help you understand a little bit more about yourself and how you can use them as examples to be in more control of the way you think, as well as some of things that you do.

Have you ever driven a car? If so, what made you want to drive it?

Have you ever ridden a rollercoaster? If so, what made you decide to ride it?

I know these questions may seem a little random, but trust me, I have a good reason for asking them. If you are like most people, you probably have never thought much of either of them.

I am asking you these simple questions to get you to consider why you do some of the things you do in life. You probably have never given much thought as to why you drive a car or ride a rollercoaster since these are just things people do in our society and around the world. We know they provide transportation and amusement, but could there be more lessons we could learn because of their existence?

I am not a psychiatrist or certified counselor who is going to explain how you should think and act, I am just a person who is experiencing life just like you. Maybe not to the degree that you are, but we are all experiencing life in some way. I’m sharing these thoughts with you because I decided to look at the events in my life in a different way, and trust me, I’ve had plenty of challenges. As a result of changing the way that I saw things, the things in my life started to change and as a result, they have revealed to me some real-life lessons. These experiences gave me inspiration and insights that I would like to share with you.

Your life is a journey, and it depends on what transportation you use and the roads you take that will determine the adventures that you will experience along the way. Since life is full of ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns, it’s important that we take time to learn how to best navigate it. Stick with me through this journey and you will see why I made this analogy. It may very well show you a way to help navigate and control your mind through this journey of life.

    Chapter 1

It Starts with How You Think

If you change the way that you look at things, the things you look at change.

    —Wayne Dyer

I started this chapter with a saying from one of my favorite instructors, Wayne Dyer. He said, When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. It was not until I started to look at the circumstances in my life in a different way that it brought about change and led me to share with you the thoughts about how we can take more control our minds.

There was a time in my life that things were not going the way that I wanted. Perhaps you have been there, or maybe you are there now. I knew that if things were going to change, then I would have to change. But how? In my quest to find some answers as to why things were happening the way they were and how I might change them, I started to study. As I studied, I learned from a number of self-improvement instructors. The common theme that they said is that if you wanted things to change, then you would first have to change the way that you think and how you see the world around you before any changes would take place.

As a result of studying, I became fascinated with the topic of my mind and how it works. I’m always looking for ways to improve myself and live a more inspired life. Studying this topic has helped me to see that I could take more control of my life by changing the way that I think. But it has also made me realize how much I fall short, and that purposely taking more control of your mind is no easy task or quick fix. Taking more control of my thinking was going to take some work because, think about it, I have been thinking the way I was for the majority of my life and there is just no quick fix to undo all those thinking habits. What I realized is that it was going to take some patience and self-discipline. The challenge was that I must have been absent the day they were handing out the discipline gene at birth because I just did not seem to have any. The good thing is that when you want something bad enough, it’s amazing where you find strength and resources that you never realized existed.

Just so you know, not all of these ideas are mine. I have had a little help. I have studied many different great inspirational instructors from James Allen, Napoleon Hill, Earl Nightingale, Bob Proctor, Wayne Dyer, and many more. If I were to try to list them all, I’m sure I would leave some out.

Throughout this book, you will learn from many of the instructors who taught me, and since this book is about how to use your mind like a car, I will refer to these teachers as instructors because it is an instructor who teaches you how to drive a car. These instructors have shared some of their insights and wisdom with me so that I may express in a way that may be helpful to you.

I like what Bob Proctor always says during many of his talks. He says that he has license to brag about the things that
