Karen Van Acker MA LPC CADCI is a licensed professional counselor with the State of Oregon who works with ages 13 through 70. She uses short term, goal directed, trauma informed therapy with Jungian influence in individual and/or family sessions to help people to relieve symptoms that come in conflict with living the fullest life possible. Her focus areas are complex trauma, women’s issues, LGBT, A/D recovery and working with parents of children with autism. Her undergraduate degree is from Portland State University where she earned a Bachelors of Science degree in the Social Sciences with a minor in Natural Science. She earned her Masters in Counseling from George Fox University, and is currently working to complete her doctoral degree in General Psychology.

I wrote this book because I have lived.
Through my life, I haven’t made the wisest choices but they were my choices and I am happy to say I owned them. While a wild journey, I have grown into someone whom I can admire and love. The one thing my life has taught me is to always focus on the positive. To focus on what is working instead of what isn’t working. Giving negative thoughts attention generally leads to those negative thoughts gaining momentum and taking over your life. If you say, "I am having a terrible day. I am having a terrible day.
