About this ebook
I wrote “Be your own life coach – Self-Improvement from A to Z” to assist people with general life skills.
I believe that we all have unique qualities, capabilities and talents. The combination of these attributes determines our true potential. But not all of us enjoy a good life or come close to having a perfect life. There must be reasons why we can’t all reach our potential and be happy and successful.
I identified some factors which I believe prevent us from reaching our full potential and be successful. I made a selection and placed them in alphabetical order. We don’t all have the same priorities and sometimes we stand in the way of our own success. Hopefully this book can help someone to find out why. I certainly learned things about myself whilst writing this book. I addressed items that we can work on ourselves and in no means reduced the value of professional intervention.
It is true that some people experience more serious challenges and problems. They have to dig deeper to reach their full potential. Some of us drown under demands, challenges and trials and feel that we can’t make it. We start believing negative messages about ourselves and as a result lose hope and faith in ourselves. It is easier to give up than to renew yourself and work on things that will improve your lifestyle and your sense of fulfilment. I hope to inspire people to declutter their minds and take on something new. Most of us felt the effects of Covid-19 and have a need for new direction.
The world can do with a lot more positivity and kindness. We can all inspire others or just help each other in a million different ways. But we are often too focused on our own challenges or problems. And admittingly we are all responsible for our own happiness.
This is a journey towards unearthing the best inside of us and making our lives a little better. I invite you to read further and hopefully find what has been holding you back.

INTRODUCTION
Every single person has unique qualities, capabilities and talents. These attributes distinguish us from others and provide us with a pathway to reach our true potential. The fact is that not all people reach their potential, feel fulfilled or even enjoy their lives. We look up to people who seem to have perfect lives and appear to be happy and successful. There must be reasons why we can’t all reach our potential and be happy and successful – most of us have the potential to be great.
I coached and mentored people throughout my life and I have identified some obstacles preventing people from reaching their full potential. These key issues are explored in alphabetical order, but this is random, as they are all important and can all add significant value to our personal and professional lives.
As human beings we relate to external stimuli and various aspects change us throughout our lives. I do not discount the fact that some people have what we referred to as a raw deal
. I have experienced degrees of adversity in my Social Work career and suffice to say that we are not all fortunate to have caring parents who guide us, protect us, love us and help us to grow up into significant adults. When parents suffer, their children suffer and carry the vestiges of neglect into their adulthood.
I believe in positive outcomes and we do have the potential to grow out of adversity and heal and be the masters of our lives, happiness and success. There are things we can change and tweak to make us better equipped to deal with challenges and we do all deserve a chance to make the best of our time on this earth.
This book is written to guide and assist or perhaps just open some possibilities previously locked due to a lack of self-esteem or something else. There are various facets to our personalities, and we are indeed complex as human beings. Sometimes we are not able to see what is right in front of us and a little awareness can open our eyes to new opportunities and options.
I believe in professional intervention and if things get too much, we should seek help. There is no shortage of therapists who can help us reach our potential, have success and be happy.
We owe it to ourselves to be the best we can be. We have the responsibility to aspire to that goal. Life often comes in the way of that, but we have the means to go beyond limitations, whether we seek professional help, find solutions for issues in the multitude of online sites providing free information or read books. The help is out there, we just have to seek it and be willing to embrace it. Our minds and attitudes are within the realm of our own control and there is great power there. I hope to inspire people to ‘declutter’ and clear up some of the things that hold them back and I hope to inspire towards change and fulfilment.
This is a journey towards unearthing the best inside of you to make life a little better. I invite you to read further and hopefully find what has been holding you back.
AWARENESS
Being aware of our thoughts, feelings and emotions help us to control our actions and responses to others. A bit of mindfulness puts us in a better place to deal with many aspects, problems, and challenges.
When you are aware of how something makes you feel, you can anticipate in advance how you will react. It is a clever way to avoid conflict and getting a different result. It allows us to have power to change outcomes. Awareness helps us to be in touch with ourselves and others.
It does not take much to live life aware – more mindful -and it offers various rewards. Being conscious of how we feel or what triggers certain emotions and feelings in us, can enhance our experiences all round. With a bit of practice, being aware can become natural and part of everything
