Weight On God - Charles Pierce

    No Turning Back

    Remember the pain

    Remember the suffering

All of the hurts and loss

    Still feel the tears

Was it ever worth the cost?

    Know in your heart

    That you are bigger than

    Your each and every mistake

    Live for today using

    Hope, love, and faith.

    Acknowledgments

There are those of us who go to God and he gives us dreams. And then there are those of us who believe God and again he gives us our dreams. So to the dreamer and all of those who have ever dared to dream, to those who have been laughed at, put down, and ridiculed, to you I say, dream on. But trust and believe that if you dare place faith and action in the midst of that dream, God can and will bring it to pass.

To my mother and father, James and Bertha Warren, thank you for giving me the freedom to dream, the faith to follow them, and the courage to continue on through addiction, incarceration, and divorce. It was your strength that I leaned on in the hardest of times.

May God forever bless and keep you. I love you both.

To my wife, Sue Pierce, nothing about our lives has come easy. Being able to love you freely has been a challenge from the very beginning. So many obstacles have ventured in our paths. Yet nothing has been able to quench the love that we have for one another.

Many will find hope in our story; some will even see their struggles told through our lives.

This is our chance to minister, our time to impart, and our responsibility to share the word of God. My life with you is truly God’s answer to all of my dreams. I love you, baby.

To my son, Charles, I love you with all of my heart. You are my firstborn, my only son, and my namesake. It has been an honor to watch you grow and a joy to share in your every trail and triumph.

Yet I now know the fear that every father faces as his son steps into manhood. It is my hope that the seed your mother and I have planted in you will allow you to blossom into the man that God intends for you to be.

God bless you, son. I love you.

And to my daughter, Sharae. My baby girl, no one makes me smile quite the way you do. If there were ever any keys to my heart, I would bet that you hold them all!

There once was a time that I wished for death, a moment so dark and so lonely that only the grave held the promise of peace.

Yet in a cold and damp basement, you unknowingly spoke the words that would give me a new will to live. You are more than daddy’s little girl, you are my angel.

    And I love you, baby.

    Inner Strength

    You may not have noticed

But I’ve been watching you lately

I see you when you go off in the corner

    And wallow in self-pity

I hear you when you lay down at night

And try and cry yourself to sleep

And in the back of your mind

    I know you wonder…why me?

Well when you woke up this morning

    And God gave you breath

    Did you say, why me?

When you felt the winds blow

    And heard the birds sing

    Did you say, why me?

When things are bad, and times are hard

Don’t waste time on, why me?

Because God gave you a gift

And with it you can move mountains of stone

    With moments of courage

When you put away the pity

    You will find a friend

    You will find me

    Your inner strength.

    Weighty Thoughts

    Welcome to the Weigh Station

Have there ever been moments in your life when you felt as though the load was much more than you could bear? Haven’t there been times when quitting seemed easier than forging ahead?

The other day I was following my pastor to an event out of town. And while on the road, we came upon a sign that read Weigh Station Ahead. It was then that God spoke to me. You see, I began to envision these trucks traveling down the road, sometimes loaded with so much freight that they were a danger to themselves and every one in close proximity to them.

This is why they must pull off the road and be measured; inspectors must make sure that the vehicle can handle what it is carrying. Are the tires up to par? Are the air brakes working properly?

These are all questions that must be answered before the truck is allowed to continue on.

While I was yet pondering these things, God spoke again and he said to me, My son, welcome to the weigh station. Because now I have began to examine myself and ask the question. What have I been carrying and what have I not let go of that has the potential to bring harm to me and those that I love if I don’t deal with it soon?

The weigh station is where God allows you to determine your level of faith and trust in him and whether or not you believe that God will deliver you in your moment of need.

No matter what you are carrying, you must understand that God has given you the grace to carry it.

The book of Matthew declares in chapter 11 verse 28, Come unto me all ye that labor and I will give you rest. Verse 30 says, For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Now did you notice that I left out verse 29? I did that because that is what we do in life. We desire the rest and the comfort. We want the lighter load, yet we do not take the time to practice verse 29, Take my yoke and learn of me, for I am meek and lowly in heart; and ye shall find rest for your souls.

His word says that he would not give us more than we could bear. Therefore, he already knows what we can handle. If we would only take the time to learn of him, only then would we see how amazing he is and the incredible depth of his love for us.

When we realize the power that is at work in us, we will gain a better understanding of what we can truly bear because in our weakness,
