Chapter 1
My transformation journey begins here
For such a long time, I’ve been dreaming of writing my own story; but I’ve been procrastinating because I didn’t know how to start with it, how it would come out, and how long it would take to finish and a lot of other inhibitions that have always been popping up into my mind and the idea of writing. Since I was a kid, I have a deep hunger of seeking something beyond my existence as an innocent young heart. I knew, right there and then, my life would be interesting and amazing because somehow I’d known myself since then. But through the years, I have always been swept away by life’s blows, trials, circumstances, and difficulties while facing my own reality. And I get caught up with the whirlwind of life’s ups and downs.
Until recently, I started listening to what God put into my heart and the inspiration and deep-burning desire to write and wanting to share my life story which I believe would touch millions of people’s lives and would be of great help and learning to others.
I still recalled when I was a kid I always preferred being alone. I’d always wanted to be alone, happy, and contented and serene, just being all by myself as I honestly grew up this way. Looking back I remembered my childhood wasn’t that very satisfying like other children. My sister and I were often together but with different wants and things to do, although we tried to jive or get along with one another. I was always being compared by my parents from her because they said she’s kind and she always followed what they wanted. I always knew what I wanted and didn’t want to be forced to anything I didn’t want; I always made sure that I would not say no to what I mostly preferred. All I knew that time was I loved reading inspiring articles (Lakbay Diwa) on People’s Journal that my popsie (father) would buy every day and the Hour of Power by Dr. Robert Schuller. I noticed when I was in my last grade in elementary or primary, I started reading books to enhance my English vocabulary. When I was in high school, my parents decided to separate me and my sister during bedtime as we shared the same mattress; they provided each of us a bed and room for we used to sleep together on the same mattress with a mosquito net. Hahaha. I remembered whenever we woke each morning, I would fold half of the mattress on my side and she would fold hers on her side; the same would be applied to the mosquito net for fairness of responsibilities. That was the training my mother told us.
And so since then, having my own room to stay gave me enough space; and I enjoyed more of my time alone, just reading and contemplating on my own thing in my room. As long as I had my book, I would feel peaceful, contented, and happy. I then started collecting and cutting out those articles from Lakbay Diwa
(It’s an article and column from People’s Journal that my popsie buys every day.) that kept me inspired and hopeful. Lakbay Diwa
inspired me because it talked about God, inspiration, hopes, comforting words, and courageous stories of people that gave me peace of mind, courage, and hope. And I said I wanted to do this thing. I knew, right there and then, I would be a writer one day because this inspired me and kept me motivated during those times in my innocent life.
When I was in high school, one of the subjects and part of the curriculum was journalism, where our teacher trained and pushed us to write about everyday news, particularly hot items or subjects or whatever is the latest news, which were normally published on the front page. Sports was also included but that was just once in a blue moon because he always made sure the topic was more about politics, which wasn’t my
