Prayer Is the Key to the Kingdom - Dr. Mary Evans

    Chapter 1

    God Is

The fact that God’s existence, both through man’s conscience, that the Bible calls the atheist a fool. Psalms 14:1 says, THE fool hath said in his heart, there is no God. The Bible never attempts to prove the existence of God; rather it assumes His existence from the very beginning. Genesis 1:1 says, In the beginning God. God is the creator of all things. The earth, universe, and the stars are all God’s creation. All of His creations were created with such precision, and individuality that they cannot be replicated.

God created man in his own image. His greatness is the intellect of man. When we look at Adam’s mental ability to give names to what is estimated to be more than seven hundred thousand things, displays the Creator’s power. The group at Babel going against God by building a tower to heaven to take over God’s throne proved to be a disaster for them when God confused their language and scattered them abroad upon the face of the earth. On the day of Pentecost, the apostles were all on one accord.

And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:3–4)

The woman having an issue of blood for twelve years was healed when she touched the hem of Jesus’s garment. This exemplifies a power and control not of man but of his creator. This shows God’s sovereignty or supreme power.

The Bible describes many characteristics of God. The Bible says God fills both heaven and earth which is the Hebrew idiom to describe the entire universe.

Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord (Jeremiah 23:24).

So God is both transcendent and immanent simultaneously. God’s normal abode is in heaven, which is not located within the physical universe. So with our limited knowledge we cannot answer the question, where is God? God is the ultimate being in existence, perfect in power, love, and character. Because God is love, he wants us to love him. He came to earth in human form as Jesus of Nazareth.

God is a warrior: The Lord is a man of war. Lord is his name (Exodus 15:3).

God is one: Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord (Deuteronomy 6:4).

God is trustworthy: Know therefore that the Lord thy God, he is God the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations (Deuteronomy 7:9).

God is too great to be described: But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? (1 King 8:27).

God is gracious and merciful: Nevertheless, for thy great mercies sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou art a gracious and merciful God (Nehemiah 9:31).

God is good: O taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man that trusteth in him (Psalms 34:8).

God is a helper: In the time of trouble; God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalms 46:1).

God is omnipotent: The mighty God even the Lord, hath spoken, and called the earth from the rising of the sun unto the going down thereof (Psalms 50:1).

God is our rock: He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be moved (Psalms 62:6).

God is our hope: For thou art my hope, O Lord God; thou art my trust from my youth (Psalms 71:5).

God is our salvation: Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation (Psalms 12:2).

God is the only one worthy of glory: I am the Lord that is my name; and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images (Psalms 42:8).

God is our father: After this manner therefore pray ye; Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name (Matthew 6:9).

God is omniscient: O the depth of riches both of wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgements, and his ways past finding out (Romans 11:33).

God is living: For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach because we trust in the Living God, who is the Savior of all men, specially of those that believe (1 Timothy 4:10).

God is King of Kings: Which in his times he shall shew who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords (1 Timothy 6:15).

God is love: And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him (1 John 4:16).

God is almighty: I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending, saith the Lord, which is and which was and which is to come, the Almighty (Revelation 1:8).

God is our guide: David wanted guidance when he said, I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel, my reins also instruct me in the right season (Psalms 16:7).

God is forgiving: We sin, and we tend to do things our way instead of God’s way. God sees it and knows it. God does not merely overlook our sins, but he is prepared to judge and condemn us for our sins. However, God is forgiving and will forgive us from the moment we ask for forgiveness and begin a new relationship with him. Jesus paid for our sins with his death on the cross. He rose from the dead so that we may be forgiven for our sins. We are made right in God’s sight when we trust in Jesus Christ to take away our sins. We all can be saved in this way, no matter what we have done.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Being justified Freely by his grace through the redemption that in Jesus Christ. Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God. (Romans 3:23–25)

God is honest: Just like a person who lets us know their thoughts and feelings, God clearly tells us about himself—the possible difference being he is always honest. Everything he says about himself or about us is reliable. God is totally accurate and truthful in what he says. Every promise he makes to us can be counted on, he means it. We can take him at his word.

According to Psalms 119:105, His word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

God is unchangeable: We as humans change daily, in our decisions, our thoughts, our behavior, our lifestyles, and
