Prologue

The social change had been gradual, so gradual that most of the old guard didn’t notice that South Korea had come under the control of a matriarch until it was too late. President Su-Ho Kim hadn’t ruffled too many feathers at the beginning, and most of the initiatives that she had eased through into law had been seen as little more than feminist fluff. Very few had realised that a keen and cunning political mind had been manoeuvring them into a position of ‘capitulate or suffer the consequences’.

Many had taken the new laws with a pinch of salt because they would never darken the lives of ordinary Koreans. Slowly the gender balance had shifted in parliament, as older men were eased out to the periphery of politics so younger and more energetic woman had stepped into their shoes. Su-Ho had played the game to perfection, and as soon as she knew she had tipped the balance in her favour she began to adjust, as she called it, the inequalities in South Korean society.

Women had the upper hand for the first time, and with a majority in parliament supporting her the Korean president began to make more radical changes.

Our society has been too biased to the male gender, she had stated to the delight of all women and the distress and concern of almost every man, It is time for a change… and we will begin in the bedroom.

The statement had been met with consternation. What about the bedroom needed to be changed, demure Asian women were always happy with what their husbands gave them?

There is a deep dissatisfaction lurking beneath the surface of even the most seemingly happy marriage… therefore I am going to introduce a new program for those women who crave a more exciting outlook when the lights are turned off. The program will be available in every city, and any married, or in a steady relationship, woman may apply. If selected and approved your marital status with change dramatically. You will be accommodated in a luxury apartment block along with your husband or long term boyfriend… Su-Ho had paused for effect before she delivered the hammer blow to masculine egos across the country. But from that moment on your partner will be husband or boyfriend in name only. He will lose all conjugal rights, he will submit to the new laws that are currently passing into law. Divorce or desertion will be prohibited and criminalised. Once a woman has been accepted into the program her partner is legally compelled to follow her. He will accept that he is prohibited from any form of sexual contact with his wife/girlfriend, or any other person. The woman, on the other hand will be required to offer herself willingly to the resident breeding bull in each apartment block registered with the program. It is a requirement that all forms of contraception will be terminated, be it oral or devices like IUDs.

Breeding bull? a male reporter’s voice had interrupted the news conference.
